Is it mandatory to have a letter of permission from the company or bank that finances your car truck or RV before you can be issued a Vehicle Permit to drive to Mazatlan? I've never heard of such a ridiculous thing. Been coming down here for 14 years, now I need permission from my bank! HELP!!!
Banks and credit unions deal with this all the time. Most will want your payments up to date and to get a copy of the Mexican insurance. They usually get it back to you in 24 hours. Its all very easy.
Some will have certain limits they demand on the insurance but they are not abnormally high.
CALL your bank. - 3oaksExplorer

Either they were lenient in the past or times have changed along with all the illegal activity.
So what's the big deal? Obtain a letter stating permission from your bank. - Talleyho69ModeratorThe rule has always been in place. As everyone as said, if only your name is on the title, you are fine.
GET YOUR PERMIT ON LINE!!!! Then all you have to do is take a picture of your paperwork and sent it to them on line. - Luke_PorterExplorerWhen I worked at GMAC, the answer was always "no" to anyone who wanted to take a vehicle to Mexico.
- tony_leeExplorerStandard requirement for border crossings is that all the paperwork matches up and there are no extra names on papers that aren't accounted for.
Our vehicles are owned by an LLC and I had to draw up a permission note so I could get a TIP into Mexico.
Recently I changed the name of the LLC to the same as our names and they don't notice the "LLC" on the end when we cross borders in South America so that saves an extra 30 minutes of explanations. I still carry a notarized permission letter just in case.
To get into Turkey recently I had to show the original receipt for the MH because the company we bought it from does all the paperwork in their name because of EU rules against foreign ownership and after a lot of explanation, it was accepted. - MarkTwainExplorer

20 yrs. ago I needed a notarized letter from the title holder i.e. the Bank owning the pink slip to take the RV into mexico. I used to get my mexican insurance from a business called "The Vagabundos" located in Rio Vista Ca. before I went into Mexico. I tried avoiding trying to buy the insurance at the busy border. - Turtle-ToadExplorerEvery US state is different in the amount and type of information shown on your vehicle registration. Some show only the registered owner, some show both the registered and the legal owner. If your state shows the Legal owner, then you have to have a letter of permission to get a TIP. Even if you have set up a LLC in your name and and made the vehicle a company vehicle, you have to generate a letter of permission on company letterhead; the letter should identify the vehicle with make, model, year, VIN, and the dates you are going to be in Mexico. Sign and date it and you are ready to go. If you have a company seal make sure you emboss it. Maybe even add a Notary Public if you want. The more "Official" the better.
If the registration only shows the registered owner (you) then you have no problem. However, if there is a lien holder you should always let them know that you are leaving the US with the vehicle. They will have certain requirements you need to meet. Mostly proof of Mexican Insurance. - darbone85737ExplorerI think it always has been "a thing" but we've never been asked for anything other than the vehicle registration. If the registration is in your name I wouldn't worry about it.
- sparksmexExplorerThe Title is not in your name and that is what they want
Been that way for a number of years - wkswensonExplorerLooks like it is a thing... but no personal experiences...
