what has it being against the law for a driver to have a Bird Dog got to do with it? Do you REALLY believe the drivers turn off the Bird Dogs just because they cross a state line where it is illegal to use one? If so. You are living in a fantasy world. And BTW. Most drivers have State of the Art Bird Dogs. It is just that the Highway Patrol knows it. And they know how to get around them.

Often they don't turn on the Radar until it is too late to slow down. And your Dog won't pick up a unit that is turned off. Eve if it says it will. And truly. IF the officer hits you with a lazer speed detector. All your Bird Dog will tell you. Is you have been caught.

Radar detectors, speeding, while towing an RV? :R

Granted that I'm retired and not in any particular hurry, but I plan my overnight stops for 300 to 350 miles per day, so I set my speed control 5 MPH below the posted max speed, stay in the right lane, and let everyone pass me, including trucks.
I drive a 'C' and pull a Jeep 'toad', so its difficult to tell when I'm completely clear of a vehicle that I pass.
I also stop at highway patrol stations located on or near state lines. It gives me time to stretch my legs, help fill their black tanks instead of mine, and see if there are any "surprises" ahead of me. They usually know about wrecks or tie ups.

The odds are rather slim in CA of getting a ticket from the CHP there are 700 of them and 30 million of us. That like 40,000 to one.

In your area that may be accurate but in central and Northern calif. It is not uncommon to see 18 wheelers pulled over. My 34' 5th wheel trailer is pretty easy to see, especially when you are passing 18 wheelers one or two at a time. Most truckers drive 60 to 62 MPH. Having a CB radio to talk with the truckers also helps to know where "Bears" are located.

Until 3-4 years ago in IL on interstates the speed limit was 65 mph for passenger cars and trucks weighing under 8000 lbs. For trucks over 8000 lbs or vehicles towing anything then the speed limit was 55 mph. That was changed to where the speed limit is the same for both. Then about a year ago it was raised to 70 mph.
Speed limits on interstates can be lower depending on location and amount of traffic.
On 2 lane the max speed limit is still 55 mph. Some limited access 4 lanes the speed limit might be 65 mph, it depends on the location, amount of traffic, and number of intersections.

Although I have not been on a lot of roads in IL. The ones I have been on I-39, 55, 70, 57, 64, 72, and US-36 had no different speed limits for different vehicles. If the speed limit was 65 it was for everyone. I have seen in some state when get within 50 miles of some of the large cites they limit the trucks (what ever the definition of a truck is) to certain lanes.
