- JbrowlandExplorerJanns,
Thanks for pointing that out. I was wondering (after info Googling about the route) if that landslide was still a factor. - JanssExplorer IIGood plan. I think it's wise to leave Mesa Verde for another trip.
Note that Google maps still has you going on the detour up to Page, which is turning off 89 onto Navajo 20 at The Gap. This was because there was a landslide on 89 north of Bitter Springs in 2013. But that is fixed, so you can stay on 89 now all the way to Page. You will ascend a mountain north of Bitter Springs. No problem though, and nice panoramic view.
If you like dams, be sure to also visit Glen Canyon Dam in Page. - JbrowlandExplorerThanks. I think we will pass on Mesa this time so we don't have to spend so much time driving. I like to stop for at least three days at a major destination and Mesa is the farthest out. Plus, I want to return to it and spend the amount of time I think it deserves.
- 2gypsies1Explorer IIIYour route looks very good. You won't have any driving issues. So you're not planning Mesa Verde after all?
- JbrowlandExplorerWe have a little more than two weeks free. LA, to Joshua Tree for a night to take a brea since we drive right past Black Rock camp ground, to Grand Canyon south rim for three days, to Page for a driving break for one night and a bit more, to Bryce for 3 days, to Zion for 3 days, to Hoover Dam for a day trip/night, to Vegas for 3 nights, to perhaps Death Valley for 2 days and then home to the SFV of LA.
- 2gypsies1Explorer IIIWhere are your planned stops to be? Perhaps we can help with routing from one to another.
Please keep in mind that traveling to these parks in April can be very 'iffy' in early April. - JbrowlandExplorerI had a look at 64 again on Google Earth up close and agree it isn't too "hairy" now that I had a closer look. We were recently in Yosemite and Sequoias driving on some interesting roads so I am sure I can handle it.
Sedona looks lovely! We definitaly need to spend some time relaxing there soon! - JanssExplorer IIIt's not a scary road. What looks "kinda hairy" to you? But that would be the way to go...east out 64 then turn north at Hwy 89 to Page and on to Bryce. Several viewpoints on the way out. Be sure to stop at least at Desert View. You might want to stop at Cameron Trading Post one mile north after you turn onto Hwy 89. The South Rim can get snow too in April. Just check the 10-day weather forecast right before you leave. And have a plan B...which could be to come to Sedona :)
- JbrowlandExplorerThanks! How about the East route out of Grand Canyon's south rim to Bryce assuming I wanted to pass on Mesa Verde this trip? That East exit looks kinda hairy on Google maps in a 25ft RV in early April no? Looks like 64 heading east to go up to Bryce.
I had a look at Page, Az as you guys suggested. I think I am sold and right on our path. Nice! :)
