- cross_countryExplorerAs of today (Saturday) report is a 15 mile stretch just South of Navajoa (sp) northbound, is speed rated at about 5 to 10 mph. under construction.
Nothing else reported from a 40 footer DP; left Mazatlan, over nighting in San Carlos. - robatthelakeExplorerMexico City to Mazatlan and likely as far North as Obregon should be decent although there will no doubt be some cruddy conditions from section to section! North of Obregon all bets ar off !
- Talleyho69ModeratorTepic to Mazatlan is in just fine condition. A couple of bumpy patches, but overall, quite good.
- cross_countryExplorerI guess the asphalt is always smoother on the other side.
The road wasn't that good coming down, in fact about in the worse condition we had driven in 12 years. Now, the other side (northbound) looked better. How much worse than southbound could it be?
Should travellers allow more time to get to San Carlos for instance?
How fast are people driving? OR is it construction at low speed that is causing the flats and "debris"?
There are approx 8 units leaving San Fernando this weekend, should they be warned? Alas road safety has taken on a new meaning. Tom
On edit; the Maz bypass is smooth concrete. About 46 peso's for a car. Still working on ramps, or should be;have to get going the wrong way for a bit and pull a U turn. Off ramps terribly marked, around Maz one can exit at Cerritos, free 15 into Maz, and Villa Union. - moishehExplorerEl Imparcial in HMO has constant stories and pictures on the poor condition of the toll road and the slow construction. But nothing changes. I am sure that some politico is a partner in the company that runs the toll road. They should be paying us to take the toll road!
Moisheh - darbone85737ExplorerI spoke with friends who drove it on Saturday. The area in northern Sinaloa through Sonora is bone rattling and will beat the******out of your vehicles.
This is from people who have driven it many times in the past based upon their trip last week. Travel by road in Mexico has become horrible and expensive. More and more people are preferring to fly to a location and rent rather than take their RVs.
On the other hand they tell me the Mazatlan bypass is open and beautiful - sonnymensiesExplorerI am also looking for the same info. I heard that the first 100 Km after the Sonora border heading North is bad , bad enough that there is supposed to be Green Angels there to help with the "flat tires and RV debree. Does any body have any first hand knowledge. We will have friends traveling that way in the next few days so will get a report from them. Has any body traveled the free road from Mazatlán to San Carlos as maybe an alternative route?????.
Thanks
Sonny Mensies - Talleyho69ModeratorRan from Morelia to Tepic today, it's just fine.
