Thanks in advance for your help all.For a couple days around Christmas, we'll need to park our C (31') (& drive daily) near the Mall of Louisiana - any suggestions?Then we head to (kid-friendly parts of) New Orleans, to Biloxi, and back north. We'd prefer not to reserve in advance, and could even do a few nights at Walmart, though it'd be great to be by the beach. Unfortunately for this trip, cost is a big factor. Water & dump covers the daily basics; more is always nice ;-)Here's what I've read about/ found so far:- Jean LaFitte, Ponchatrain Landing, Bayou Signette, others(?) around NOLA- Cajun RV (Beach Blvd), Silver Slipper Casino RV Park @Waveland, MS- Davis Bayou campground or Buccaneer SP- Island View Casino in Gulfport & CG nearby Thanks again!

If you are looking for cheap options consider some of the Louisiana state parks, this time of year they tend to be fairly empty. Perhaps Tickfaw state park about 50 miles east of Baton Rouge, the appear to have at least 50% vacancy on the test dates I entered starting next week for 14 days, prices start at $18 per night.As to being around the mall of Louisiana I feel sorry for you, I stopped in there to do Christmas shopping one afternoon on the way home to SW Louisiana from Florida in my class B a couple of days before Christmas 15 or so years ago. Got done shopping around 5 pm, the parking lot was complete gridlock, so stayed in my parking space, I ended up watching tv, eating, playing a game on the notebook computer, etc., finally traffic started moving at around 8 pm.p.s. if you have the America the Beautiful national park pass, Louisiana honors it for 50% off camping in the state parks (So does Arkansas and a couple of other states)

We've been to Bayou Signette when visiting New Orleans. Nice park. Convenient location.Dale

The Silver Slipper is just a parking lot. It gets wiped out regularly during hurricane season. Call and make sure it's open.Buccaneer SP is just up the street and it's very nice. They rebuilt after Katrina and put all the infrastructure up on stilts so they're less susceptible to flooding.Choose the road to get for I-10 out to the coast carefully. There are some bad grade crossings in the area that may bottom out anything being towed. Last I checked the SP website directions sent you over one. It's best to use the casino road. It has a completely flat grade crossing.

Campgrounds are pretty scarce north of Baton Rouge, and the opposite direction from your goal, but.... there’s a pretty nice campground (Legacy RV Park) at St Francisville. It’s not fancy, with lots of amenities,but offers a nice place to park and good access to the areas sights. If time is “not” a problem, this may be an option to add to the trip. It’s a beautiful area with many homes/ plantations on the National Registry, some of which you can tour. There’s also, Jackson and Clinton with some historical interests. Lots of very pretty, but narrow, roads to travel! Even if you can’t stay in the area, consider passing thru on your way back ti Illinois.

RVcrazy, Sorry!!! It is Legacy Park RV on 9695 Bains Road, St. Francisville 70775 ( 1-225-635-0035). This is “not” a fancy park, and most of the campers are long term (construction type folks). It’s well kept, has security cameras, good location, across road from high school. With not much to choose from north of Baton Rouge, it’s not a bad park. We have lots of friends and family in Zachary, and this was the closest, campground for us....and feel comfortable about the recommendation!

Lamar Dixon Expo Center just off Hwy. 30 and about a mile from I-10. This is just east of Baton Rouge. Large sites, full hookups, pull throughs. The campground is behind the large buildings. There is a campground on the side but those are long termers.

Farr park near LSU when going to Mall of La. It is the horse park mentioned by two med. Hollywood Casino RV in Bay St Louis near Gulfport.

To clarify, I believe that LA state parks honor the America the Beautiful pass only if you are from one of those few other states that also honor it. This from the LA state park web site:
