- texasjaycoExplorerInks Lake is great, along with (as mentioned) S. Llano River SP...our favorite. BUT, you better make reservations real early for Inks!! It is the second most popular park (behind only Garner), and books up way out. On your way through Marble Falls, be sure to stop at Bluebonnet Cafe!! Plenty of room to park around back.
Once in Big Bend, hike into Santa Elena Canyon!! Beautiful but easy hike.
Mark - Bob806Explorer IIIWe just visited there in September. Camped at South Llano River SP and Pedernales Falls SP. Went on a day trip to Inks Lake. All 3 were well worth it with scenery, hiking and swimming, plenty to keep you busy.
Fredricksburg was nice, my wife was happy with all the shopping there. Personally, I liked Junction better (close to S Llano River) because it wasn't as touristy...and they had a great BBQ place (Lum's I think was the name). - PawPaw_n_GramExplorerI prefer taking US-90 rather than I-10 from I-35 to Big Bend/ Alpine/ Van Horn.
Garner State Park near Uvalde is excellent.
We also like Seminole Canyon State Park just west of Del Rio.
The Pecos River Bridge is a surprise.
The Judge Roy Bean Museum in Langrty.
Your 24-footer will fit into any campground in Big Bend.
Depending upon the weather at the time of your visit - a river side campground might be best. The Chisos Basin CG is at 5,400 ft elevation. During our summer there as hosts - we never saw a temp above 95 while it was regularly over 105 at RGV. But in the winter, the Basin often sees a little light snow, and temps can drop below freezing at night.
Or not - Big Bend is still Texas - our weather is bi-polar.
Rio Grande Village has about 100 dry camping sites. Some in an area which can run generators for a few hours a day.
Next to the Rio Grande Village Store is a concessionaire run parking lot campground with FHU spots.
The Chisos Basin Campground will hold your rig in several spots. Preferred would be #9. It's one of few sites in that CG which has a back-in/ pull-in area for a small rig. Most of the sites in the Basin CG are just wide spots alongside the road. Several are level enough for a small trailer or Class C/A. (My sig pic was taking at the host spot in the Basin CG.) The first / upper loop at the Basin allows generator use for a while each morning and each evening.
The Cottonwood CG does not allow generator usage. - steveandjilExplorerDear all,
Thanks so much for all the great advice.
Steve - timandsusanExplorerPlease don't miss the Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg--we live in San Antonio and have been there several times and still not seen it all. Several very good RV parks in the area--also great food! Further west is Alpine that is near the McDonald Observatory--really great star parties--check out their website. Or maybe stay at Davis Mt State Park that is also near the Observatory. After all of that--still have a great time in Big Bend Nat. Park.

Using I-10, I have never stopped here, but have been tempted to do so, Caverns of Sonora, they say is a National Natural Landmark, a unique cave located 8 miles west of the town of Sonora, Texas, and a world-class cave. It does have camping as well.

The Museum of Western Art near Kerrville is really good, a must see for sure if possible.
http://museumofwesternart.com/ Should be easy to find RV sites as well. Used to be a state park by the river, but not a state park now.
I found Cascade Caverns at Boerne to be extremely neat (my first cave) when I was about 12 or 13. Not sure how it would hold up now for me.

The Caverns of Sonora are one of the most beautiful caves I've been to. I had a great tour & highly recommend a visit for those interested in caverns. Some photos from my visit. - DesertHawkExplorerUsing I-10, I have never stopped here, but have been tempted to do so, Caverns of Sonora, they say is a National Natural Landmark, a unique cave located 8 miles west of the town of Sonora, Texas, and a world-class cave. - steveandjilExplorerThanks - while we are at it - any favored sites in Big Bend?
