Beach RV parks on beach near San Diego?

Are there any beach side RV parks in the San Diego area? I'm looking for something that can be reserved and has full hookups.

Looking for something on the ocean, not Mission Bay. So far all I've found is Paradise By the Sea RV park in Oceanside but its back a bit from beach and reviews are poor. Any other great ideas of where we can stay?

  • The only trouble I have with the state parks such as Silver Strand is that they lock gates at around 9pm. Makes it tough if we're out for the evening. Otherwise looks perfect!

Silver Strand State Beach is right on the ocean, several miles south of Coronado. It is just a sandy parking lot but does have electric and water at each site but not sewer. There is a dump station. The sites are very small and close together but you will never get closer to the Pacific. Reservations are always a good idea and it is very expensive. I think the one night we spent there last fall came to around $71. The CG is locked down at eight every night.

For what you say you are looking for it's this...everything else is not...including Chula Vista.
  • For RV parks - Chula Vista. It is not right on the water - it backs up to a park on the beach, so there is a parking lot between you and the beach. BTW, you might not want to stay on the sites closest to the water- unless you like hearing as many as 7 different ice cream trucks at one time. No I am not exaggerating, I counted. One was even playing Christmas music in July.
  • Doheny SB is very nice. Near San Juan Capistano. We stayed there a couple of days. Limited slots with hookups (Water, electricity) but plenty of slots big enough for larger RV if you don't mind not being hooked up. There is a dump station just outside the actual park.

San Onofre looks OK but has limited season and you will get shunted to another park (San Mateo) nearby not quite on the beach (1.5 mile walk).

Checked out but did not stay yet at Moro Campground near Laguna Beach CA. Looks very nice, Less than 1 mile walk to Crystal Cove beach. Dump station just inside the park

  • I am not sure if it is too far north of where you want to stay, but we really like the San Elijo State Beach near Encinitas. It is a nice park with some full hookup sites. Half of the park is on a lower level with easy access to the beach. The other sites are on a bluff where you take stairs down to the beach. Within the park is a great fish taco stand.

Carlsbad State Beach north of San Diego

On San Diego Bay is one of our favorites... Chula Vista RV Resort. It's a good base camp to give you access to all that San Diego has to offer. It's across the bay from Silver Strand.
