Double ditto plus Unicoi State Park has some FHU. There's a pottery museum in nearby Sautee Nacoochee that has crafts, pottery and artwork for sale in the adjacent building. It used to be an old school. Interesting place.

FHU sites (some) and the town of helen offers some unique shopping. It's made to look like an old bavarian village. If you get to hot, you can tube the 'hooch....

Fort Mountain State Park, up the mountain from Chatsworth. Out of the park to the right will take you down the mountain to Elijay. Walking trail around the lake...walking trails through the mountain, nice park if you want to get away from everything. Chatsworth is down the mountain about 8 miles if you need food etc.

This calls to mind an experience we had several years ago at Stone Mountain. I was struggling to level up our fifth-wheel with as many blocks as I had--and about to give up--when a fellow pulled up in one of the campground "golf carts."

"Listen," he said, "we can do better than that." and he gave me a slip of paper with several site numbers jotted down. "Now, go back up to the office when you have selected the one you want and tell them I said to change you to that site." Turns out he was the park manager! What a nice guy, and what a pleasant memory.

But. . .I never thought of Stone Mountain as being in the "mountains of Georgia." We have stayed there many times over the years as we had friends living between there and downtown Atlanta, and would go back if we wanted to visit Atlanta.

Site selection is paramount at Stone Mountain. It can certainly test your leveling skills. Only place I've used ALL my blocks, just to get close. Had to move a couple of times because level was just not happening.

If you can drive around first and scout the spots. Pay particular attention to the pedestals and sewer connections. Try not to be at the bottom of the park, you can end up with a sewer surprise as they don't alway drain.

We like the SPs too: roomy sites, plenty of bike and hike paths, fishing, waterfalls, convenient to all the places you like, and very reasonable rates. IIRC there are no COEs in the GA Mtns per se.

If you can't get into Unicoi, Vogel is nice too. They have a waterfall at the end of the man made lake. Blairsville nearby has a good farmer's market.

Important update: it's 1 hour 15 minutes to Helen. Also the sites are packed closely together as evidenced by their photos.

We stayed there after having service done in Gaffney this past May. I thought the place was nice, I did not have any issue with closeness of sites.. we are in a 43' MH towing a pickup. Local roads were great for riding our motorcycle.

No the COE lakes are not up in the mountains. Lakes Nottely & Chatuge are TVA lakes. Tallulah Falls Lake, Tugalo Lake, Lake Burton, Lake Yonah, Lake Seed and Lake Rabun are Georgia Power lakes. TVA never did build campgrounds as nice as the COE, very few had electric. And most have been closed, or privatized. GA Power does have a few nice campgrounds, but on their lakes in east, central and west Georgia

Forgot to mention: Unicoi is next to Anna Ruby Falls-beautiful!

Most on the COE campgrounds in GA, are on the lakes and not up in the mountains. To my knowledge...
