- livelylittlecamExplorerWe are actually staying at the Asheville East KOA right now and I have been blogging about our stay. Please click below to see a bunch of pictures of the campground.
We have really enjoyed staying here. It is close to highway 70 and you can hear the train go by once or twice a day. Besides that though the campground is Beautiful and conveniently located for adventure and fun in the Asheville area. Full Hook Up price is also very good at less than 40 bucks a night.
The Swannanoa River cuts right through the campground and there are two lakes that are pretty in the back of the campground. We have a riverfront site which is not very wide but it is very, very long. There are two fire pits on the site--one by our camper and one down by the edge of the river. Tubing on the river is a blast--you can hop in right at the end of your site.
We have kids, and there is plenty for them to do here. If you are traveling with just adults you should also consider Mama Gerties--we have stayed there as well but did not go back because there is nothing for the kids. It is also a very pretty campground at a great price.
Either way--there is so much to do out here that you probably won't be spending too much time at your site anyway.
Have Fun!!
Jeremy - wbwoodExplorerThe Boone KOA is ok as long as you don't stay in the "I" section. There LSV Julian price memorial park on the BRP near blowing rock. No hook ups. Also linville.
Near Asheville, campfire lodgings, mama Gerties. - wbwoodExplorer

Most beautiful park we have seen. P M me for more.
While I will agree it was ok kept, the owners were not the friendliest around and they have lots of rules. Te owner walks around with a list in his back pocket or at least did the weekend we were there.
We will never return. - amxpressExplorerThis is one of our favorite campgrounds.
http://brownmountainbeach.com/rv-sites/ - TerryallanExplorer IIIF you want to be up the mountain. You really can't beat Raccoone Holler, Easy to get to, and a great place, But do call before you go. It is arguable the most popular CG in the NC High Country.
Honey Bear just out of Boone is good as well, and Flintlock Campground.
Mountain Stream is OK, but it is at the bottom of the mountain, and pretty hot there, Plus a steep, really twisty drive up the mountain. Would not be fun in any motorhome.. Not fun in a car.
However there is a nice CG just off the BRP in that area, Toe River Campground. A good place as well with a pool, playground, and of course a river.
Then there is the Boone KOA. And IF you really want away from it all. There are some really nice National Parks CGs on the BRP. Julian Price is one of the largest, and nicest, and there is also Linville Falls on the BRP. They are primitive CGs, But full of wildlife, and Julian Price has a lake to canoe on. Linville Falls is on the access road to the falls itself.
Grandfather Mountain is a fun place to go, and do go into Blowing Rock, and Boone. And Of course Linville Falls, There is also Linville Caverns. Or just ride the Parkway some, and see the sights from the overlooks. At many of the overlooks, There are trails to hike, that will take you to water falls, and other vistas.
IF you can get to it. Mt Mitchell is a great place to visit.
AND. IF you want, or like theme parks. there is Tweetsie RailRoad. With a steam engine ride, where the Indians, and outlaws attack the train. You can mine for gold, and ride the other rides. there are also shows to see there. It's a lot of fun. Then there is Mystery Hill. Where even though you fell like your standing straight up, Things fall or roll away from, or toward you. There are places like that on the BRP as well. Where it looks like you are going down hill, but yet you are really going up. Your vehicle knows better than you.
So come on up. - magnusfideExplorer II

Little Switzerland http://www.mcdowellnc.org/towns/little_switzerland.php - LakeNExplorerSee Biltmore House, gardens, winery in Asheville. Many good campgrounds....I'd skip Asheville East KOA.
Lake Powatan sounds like what u are looking for. - sdianel_-acct_cExplorerhttp://www.cfaia.org/campgrounds-recreation-areas/lake-powhatan-campgrounds-in-north-carolina.php#
- samsphonesExplorerIf you are going later to see the leaves change, Raccoon Holler in Glendale Springs is the most beautiful campground we have seen, it is also right off the Blue Ridge Parkway; even if not going later still a great place to be, go to West Jefferson and see cheese made and it is also a great town to just walk the streets, it has more antique shops than I have seen anywhere.
- P3TCExplorerA 20 mile stretch of the Blue Ridge Parkway is closed , north of Asheville, consider catching it near Boone.
Will you be coming in on I 40?
Bill
