- DrewEExplorer IIOne excellent reference for state park (and other state-run) campgrounds in New York is the Camp ADK NY State Campground Photos site, which is unofficial but quite helpful. It does not cover every NY state park. (Note that the star ratings are "lakeside camping ratings" and not overall campground ratings; a one-star campground may be a very nice park and campground, just not on a lake.)
- LwiddisExplorer IITo me part of the fun of RVing is discovering campsites without the help of anyone..just a map. Could be different in the Empire State...or east of the Mississippi.
- PadlinExplorerAre you looking to boondock? as in no one else around, usually free or close to it, or looking for a campground that is in a secluded area? as in others around you but not too close.
Boondocking, real boondocking, sites in the north east are pretty sparse. Used to be some in the ADK's that amounted o dirt road pull offs. May or may not still exist.
If you just want a campground that has some room between you and the next guy, check out some state park campground.
You can try looking around on https://freecampsites.net/
Just enter new york, then zoom in on the map and read the specifics on the spots it comes up with. Some might work, most will not.
Most of the free secluded spots have no caretaker, it's first come first served. Not always occupied by the most desirable folks.
National Forest campgrounds might be a good thing to look try if you haven't done so in the past. - 1492Moderator

Perhaps, I can clarify what other members are trying to convey?
To those confused about how I assumed this was a forum on finding campgrounds please see the following statement from the head of this forum...
You posted your thread in 'Forum Posting Help and Support'. Directly above is an '"Announcement : ★★READ BEFORE POSTING HERE★★"' sticky that is essentially saying that this sub-forum is for questions related on how to use the Open Roads Forum, or member related account issues. Not for RV questions.
The delay in responses refers to the fact that Mods are not always available to move your thread in a timely manner. Threads are temporarily 'closed' to take it off the 'Newest' link, as this is where most members are seeing and responding to your thread. Most members don't visit 'Forum Posting Help and Support' specifically to answer RV related questions?
What you need to do is to visit the specific sub-forum, using (Open Roads Forum or the 'Jump to Forum' dropdown) that relates to the subject of your thread, and click that 'Post New Topic' link. This is how your thread appears in the correct sub-forum. - 2oldmanExplorer II

Thank you.
Yes that's exactly what I did without realizing that's where my question would end up.
Nobody's blaming you.. this happens all the time, and not just by newbies. You can take a look at all the deleted or moved posts in here (click that same link again.)
We don't find Class A posts in Fifth-wheels, or posts about Dogs in Technology corner. But this one is different. As a former business programmer, I get curious as to why these things happen. It's never the users' fault, it's a design problem.
Sorry to have upset you at all, that was not the intention. - Firefighter6567ExplorerYou're excused, but there are many sub-forums here. How did you end up in this particular one? Did you click that link in the upper-right?
Please, it's an honest question.
Yes that's exactly what I did without realizing that's where my question would end up. Was just looking for guidance on asking the question. Sorry for my sarcasm, didn't understand what you didn't understand. - AcampingwewillgExplorer IIIts his first day here...maybe a little slack would be in order and when a Mod comes around, the topic can be moved! Like most of us "Old Timers" , I look at the "Newest" topics and I, for one, didn't even notice where this question was posted until it was mentioned. :)

Please excuse me for assuming camping and campgrounds might include campgrounds.
Please, it's an honest question. - Second_ChanceExplorer II

Well again to those who were actually helpful thank you. To those confused about how I assumed this was a forum on finding campgrounds please see the following statement from the head of this forum:
Welcome to our RV Forum, the Best source of RV news and information related to RVs, Campers, Camping, Motorhomes, Trailer, Travel Trailers, Fifth Wheels, Campgrounds, National Parks and State Parks in North America.
Please excuse me for assuming camping and campgrounds might include campgrounds.
The problem is that you actually didn't get it posted in camping and campgrounds - it's in "Forum Posting Help and Support." No casualties...
