- TomG2ExplorerI am too lazy to do the analysis, but the old-timers swear the weather in the RGV was better 20-30 years ago. It makes sense that if the historical average is a high of seventy degree and it was forty five this year, there had to be some pretty nice days in the past. On second thought, wasn't "everything" better 20-30 years ago?
- John_JoeyExplorerI brought this thread back to life as reference. It appears that somewhere around 12/31/2014 the thread went from wonderful, to not so wonderful (Texas winter). It now appears spring is here (hopefully) to stay on 2/11/2015. That took roughly five weeks.
During those five weeks we did have a few nice days, but nothing that a person with only a one week vacation would have been very happy spending a lot of money (i.e plane tickets, hotel, etc...) for.
For me, that is a typical snowbird season in Southern Texas. Maybe years ago it wasn't that way, but it sure does seem to be the norm since I've been coming down here. I'm betting it always has been that way, since the price seems to reflect a less then semi-tropical winter. - TomG2ExplorerThis is of those, "It could have been worse" winters. Even though it did not seem like January would ever warm up, it was actually not as cold as last January. Nothing but sunshine from now on. (I hope)
- John_JoeyExplorerLooks like (I hope) we're back to having wonderful weather. Feels like spring has sprung in southern Texas. :)

Somebody please, please, please tell me that it is going to warm up by the first week in Feb. in the rgv . We are planning on making our first trip down there but it hasn't seemed very warm on the weather reports that I have seen.
Second week in March is Spring break (swimsuits.) In April you'll have the 90's. In February it can be a toss up. Could be just lovely, or you could have an ice storm like back in 2011.
I'm thinking the worst of winter is over this year, so hopefully you'll have a nice stay in February. - PawPaw_n_GramExplorerDefine 'warm'
70s, 60s, 50s.
How high in the day? how low at night?
If I can wear a light sweater and not a heavy coat in the afternoon, I'm happy. I'm not looking for shorts and shirt sleeves in Texas, Arizona, California during Jan or Feb all the time. A few days, sure - there will be some. Most days not. - TomG2Explorer

Call the McAllen Chamber of Commerce for the most optimistic predictions. Actually, we are supposed to have five days in a row over sixty degrees starting today for the first time in a long time. - stillwanderingExplorerSomebody please, please, please tell me that it is going to warm up by the first week in Feb. in the rgv . Maybe those unhappy about RGV weather should consider going south where it is cheaper next year - Cancun ?
My girlfriend and I were talking just this morning how nice the weather is in Puerto Vallarta. Sorry if some are bored by all this weather talk, but thirty degrees below normal is noteworthy in any part of the country. On the other hand, today everyone is enjoying the weather before the bottom drops out again tomorrow.
For me it's more then just "thirty degrees below normal." We first came to the Valley based on this forums glowing reports about the weather and how cheap it was five years ago. Four winters later I understand why the price is cheap. It's because you can not get seven days of nice weather in a row during mid December to mid February (what I call the Texas winter.) This came to my attention when family and friends would fly down for a well deserved week's vacation from their northern jobs. I would then watch them put up with crappy weather for half (or more) of their vacation. For just a little bit more they could have vacation in a much nicer place and really unwound.
So if you do come down in an RV, come down for the hospitality, good neighbors, the vastness of Texas and the places you can RV to during the winter, good fishing BBQ and Lone Star/Shiner beer, plus of course, the lower prices.
But don't RV here thinking you'll be one of those on this forum that will thumb their noses at AZ and FL because Texas has the same weather at only half the price. That part ain't true.
Heck it took me a year to figure out that most that claim great weather in the Valley don't even have a RV they live in, and if they do, they have supporting structures that will assist during the bad weather times. This is RV.Net based on RV'ing, but the Snow bird forum is open to all, even if you live in a condo/townhouse/casita/or hotel room.
I'm just very happy that this thread has the "(So Far)" in the title. As they say truth in advertising. Hopefully in another week or so we will go back to the "South-TX Weather Has Been Wonderful" title part (and yes it has been.) Then I guess we'll start seeing posters once again thumbing their noses at AZ and FL and how Texas has the same nice weather at half the price on this forum. - TomG2Explorer
