- RVcircusExplorer IIYou can always cut a slip in the membrane, but I think the EPDM is stiff and thick enought that drilling through it won't be an issue.
I'd also try to get screws into a rafter. Our roof is fiberboard and don't know how well it would hold a well nut with a solar panel that's trying to sail away.djgodden wrote:
Can you simply drill into an edpm roof or should any precautions be taken? Will the rubber twist on the drill? Getting ready to put I well nuts which will hold my solar panels in place. using 1/4-20x1/2 well nuts.

i anchored mine directly with screws
but since your going for a bigger hole
you might want to try a hollow cutter
a piece of stainless tubing the correct size, sharpened from the inside edge out
it other words a a round razor turning in your drill driver
cut the rubber not the under layment
then use a conventional bit to drill the hole
this way you don't run the risk of twisting the epdm roof material
that sort of sounds like what a plug cutter would do. intended to drill plugs out of a board to match the wood used.
