I have a 1996 Jayco Designer 5th wheel. Seems like I have an awning that always worked fine that now free falls. Not certain if there are parts that are out there that would replace the Front Spring Assembly 6598-0001 or the Rear spring assembly 6599-0001. Is the front always the right side as you look at the RV? The fabric and rest of the structure is good.

Thanks for the comments. If I could find the new springs for $150-200, I might do that. The material fabris is like new and everything else seems in great condition. How do I know if only the front spring torsion assembly (head) is sprung? It seems like when I put the awning all the way out, and took off the Arm Cap kit and spring torsion assembly (heads), and rolled up the canapy by hand on the roll tube and then put the cap kit and spring torsion assembly back in place and then let the awning back out, it still wanted to free fall. I heard the rachet clicking, but it seemed like the rear (left side of awning) head was maybe getting some tension. In the end, I still had to roll it up by hand with two people on ladders. Where do I go to find a replacement part that might work? Someone said the spring torsion assemblies are similar in the A&E 8300 Sunchaser. Where to find one of those?? Thanks again for any comments.
Unfortunately, I think you'd have to take it apart to see if there is tension and the pawls are still grabbing. Just because the ratcheting pawls are clicking does not mean the shaft inside is not slipping. No idea how or if new arms or heads would marry up to the old roller. You could buy new arms and heads and install your old fabric. Might save you a buck.
that was my question are they wond up properly, but as for parts, it might be tough, used rv parts places, e-bay. now if the tube happens to be the same inner dimentions as other brands you could probably just get away with a different brand tensioner in it, so thats somthing to look at also.
Faulker is no longer in business. You'd have to cross reverence the parts, find a more universal core replacement or replace the arms and heads for a more modern set up from Carefee. You're talking about 30 year old awning from a company that went out of business years ago. The heads, if you could even find them would be in the neighborhood of $150-200 each. A new awning complete can be had for $600-700. Motorized for $800. If you do find springs, be very careful. Those things will take a finger off in a heartbeat.
