Sewer Solution

A neighbor just showed me his sewer connection called a Sewer Solution. It has a high pressure water macerator pump attached to his rig and instead of a standard stinky-kinky hose, it uses a 3/4" hose.

He claims no trouble in 5 years of use. He demonstrated the unit and it was slick. The company also claims that since it has a back-flush function, you can leave your grey water valve open all the time.

Has anybody had any experience with this product?

Useful if you always camp where you have on-site water but here in Ontario where you & I both are you won't ever have that in the provincial park system and only some sites in conservation area parks so it would only be useful in private parks with full service sites. I too have a macerator and service my tanks at home but it's a 12 vdc powered FloJet Waste Macerator which can be used anywhere 12 vdc is available. Wouldn't ever consider a water powered Sewer Solution.

Agree with SoundGuy, but I only use my Sewer Solution at home. I don't carry it with me. Works good at home where you have plenty of water and not in any rush. I would never use it at a campground.

I've been using it for a couple years and it works great IMO. If there's a line at the dump station at a campground I simply go home to dump. I have a sewer clean-out about 50 ft away.

I bought a 75 foot dedicated 3/4" hose off Amazon, cut one end off and clamped the cut end to the Sewer Solution with a hose clamp. Did not use the supplied adapter.

Drawbacks are it uses a lot of water and can be slow compared to other methods.

However, when I dump at home I'm not in a hurry, take my time and use my tank sprayer too to get the tanks really clean.
  • a previous post reminded me that I would recommend epoxying/etc. the device to a connection device as I also broke a flange on the SS.
there was a picture of a home made device here years back, don't know if it is accessible now however.

    Looks like a great idea.
    QUESTIONS:
    1) Does the macerator turn on automatically when you flush the toilet?
    2) If it's like a garbage disposal, when not used in a while (like an RV sitting for a season), ours every once in a while sticks, and you have to get under it to insert an Allen wrench to rotate it to free it up. How would this be done in an RV setting?
    3) Bumpy -- what's your home made solution look like?

    Thanks.

Oops -- I should have Googled it before I asked.
Looks like it is all external to the RV, and carries out its actions WHEN YOU ARE AT THE DUMP STATION.
I had the idea that this thing was mounted under the commode, and would turn on like a garbage disposal in a sink, while you're sitting there. (Might give you a trim at the same time, huh....:D:) )

The Sewer Solution is a passive water driven device, not an electric motor driven device like conventional macerators or a waste disposal. The only "On/Off" function is turning the water supply on and off.
  • I had one on my 1990 Bounder and due to the configuration of the drain valves and hose storage, I only removed it once and it did take a lot of force and some breakage did occur. It did work for emptying my tanks at home and I could pump up and over a planter to a cleanout on the side of the house. I had 20 feet of hose attached. A Sewer Solution, however, is not a pump, it is a macerator system. It uses gravity and/or water pressure to pull stuff out of the tanks and macerate it. There are no moving parts used to break down effluents and paper, just a stream of water and in my opinion it is not a flush system, hose yeah, tank, no.

I don't have one on the Winnie because I have a Tornado Tank Flush installed and it is easier to use that and the 3" hose in most places. At home there is a rise if 18" over the planter and then back down to the cleanout so I do need something to overcome that rise. I am going to use the Steam Punk Workshop, garbage disposal method. (LINk) I do not plan on carrying the thing in the rig, it is just for use to pump out and clean the tanks at home.

I have never had a clog with the 3" hose and the only reason for the pump is for at home usage when I am camping without a dump station or when the RV becomes our second bedroom.
  • Ten plus years no problems. Bought two extra 10 foot hoses so can hit almost any RV park sewer connection.

Also purchased a short extension to put between the Sewer Solution and my sewer outlet. When removing the Sewer Solution from my coach, I leave the unit connected to the short extension and remove the extension from the sewer outlet. I have broken one extension ear which is SO much cheaper to replace vs breaking the ear off of the Sewer Solution.

  • I used one before I got a macerator pump. worked great. there will be some folks here whining that it uses too much water, but then they will back flush their black tank 3-4 times with a stinky slinky.
following somebody's idea here I also made my own for less than $20.
beats a stinky slinky any day.
I never left my grey tank open all the time.
