Weber Q to propane tank

SoundGuy... I think you are just making this more complicated than it has to be. I never said I don't use propane for the frige and HW heater as necessary. If shore power fails, I still have the propane hooked up, and yes, it will cut over for the fridge, and a simple switch cuts on the HW heater. Nowhere did I say I am relying totally on shore power for ever. C'mon man, get real. The camper will not fall apart and the world will not blow up if I disconnect one of my propane tanks to fuel my grill for a bit. My grill has a hose already with it, so no, I don't need anything else other than to disconnect the tank.

And yes, hauling a 5lb tank is easy, and even easier than disconnecting the trailer tank. But, it's another thing to pack and haul. I may find myself buying a 5lb tank but for now, the 30 secs I spend pulling a tank to fuel my grill works just fine.

If you lose campsite power you will want to run your fridge and water heater on gas, in fact if that power is even suspect you'd want to disconnect entirely until you're sure that 120 vac source power isn't failing in any way, especially if (like most) you're not using any sort of surge or electrical management system to help protect the trailer's electrical system. No way would I set myself up for a failure like this, relying on shore power to be there all the time. As far as your earlier comment about not needing anything else if you simply remove one of the trailer's tanks for the purpose of running your BBQ the answer is of course you do, you still need a hose of some length to run from the tank to the grill ... so some would just prefer to leave the tank where it is and use a longer hose to reach the grill. For those who already have a low pressure fitting on the side of their trailer it's understandable why they'd prefer to make use of it by having a hose designed for the purpose running out from that feed to a grill like a Weber Q with the regulator removed. If I too had that feed I'd probably make use of it as well but as it is my particular unit isn't equipped with a low pressure feed like this and for me it's not worth investing in installing one, ergo the reason I just feed my Q with a easy to carry, easy to store 5 lb tank that I may have to re-fill just once during the season. For me that's hands down simpler than fooling around with the trailer tanks ... or as you say, easy peezy. ;)

We have a 20' (or it might be 25') 3/8" hose. Got it from a local RV repair/parts shop. I don't think they are hard to find. There are a couple of types of material they're made from. Ours is soft and supple and easy to coil up. Never ever have had a tripping issue in 4 seasons of using the hose. We're about to dump our Road Trip grill and get a Q 1200 and will convert that to run off the fitting under the TT. Here is a 20' 3/8" hose on ebay. Should be available at a BBQ store too.

You wont find a hose that long(at least I never have), so you'll have to series two 12's or get one custom made

I'm in this camp. Connecting with the hose turned out to be more trouble than it's worth. The tripping hazard and limited grill location are to issues you don't have to deal with using an additional tank.
I do understand the OP is now full timing and storage space is a bigger issue. Nevertheless I find myself seldom using the hose because it is not as convenient as I thought it would be.

So in the meantime while he has a functioning BBQ, he just lost the fridge, stove, WH, and RV heater, not including the time to remove, reinstall, purge, and make sure everything works again immediately after grilling. And now everyone is done before you ever get a chance to sit down.
Why would you possibly do that?

Don't most TT's have two tanks? Remove is less than 30 secs. reinstall, less than 30 secs. Purge and make sure everythings working? I did it half a dozen times this past four day weekend, with no need to do any purging, and testing, and making sure everything is working. Hooked back up with no problems and worked without a hitch. It's not rocket science and you make it sound like it is a big ordeal.

That's what I do. It's no hassle. Takes 30 seconds to remove one of the propane tanks from the camper. Plus it doesn't cost me ANY additional money for adapters, hoses, connectors, blah blah blah.

I read the comments on Amazon and it seems that I'll be able to leave this "Y" permanently connected and only connect the grill when I need to since the "Y" should have a check-valve on either side.

I plan on the side with the Weber always having propane. So, I'm not worried about it being on the auto-changeover.

That Y off the tank will work fine for you if you want to leave the regulator on your Q. It's similar in concept to the Marshall Extend A Flow, which uses a TEE.

Modifying the Q by removing the regulator is for folks that want to utilize the Quick Connect found on newer trailers. I modified mine and it takes about 2 minutes if you are very slow.

I ordered a low pressure 15' hose and converted my Weber Q to run off the low pressure connection already plumbed on my trailer. I also have a regulator connected hose assembly worked up for it so I can power the Weber with a 20 pound tank. With the ability to use both I find myself hooking the Weber up to the 20# tank most of the time. In fact, I don't know the last time I hooked it up directly to my trailer.

I have a T-Fitting on one of my TT gas bottles prior to the regulator to tap off and get high pressure when desired. I rarely use it as I generally a spare 20 pound tank to use with both my weberQ, and my little red campfire. That said, even though I have those two options, most of the time I just go with the simplicity of the little green tanks.

Nevertheless I found myself tripping over the hose too frequently. I now try to cover the hose with a mat.
Ultimately using a 20# tank and eliminating the long hose altogether was my best solution

Worse part would spilling the JackDaniels :B

Tough call getting a 2nd degree burn or spilling the Jack.
Doing both may be a reason to give up camping or at least grilling while camping!:D
