- The_real_wild1ExplorerI will be taking out the top bed mattress but I'm going to use it for storage instead of a bed. Nice to load up the platform and raise it out of the way.
- rcpd34ExplorerYou cam order the parts from Happijac and just build the platform yourself. Anyone removing their second bed interested in selling it?

I built our second set of rails without welding. The only welding would be the tabs that connect the rails to the track brackets. I used tabs that were a bit thicker and wider than the welded on tabs held together with three 1/4" flat head bolts & nylon lock nuts. The previous owner must have left something on the upper bed when raising it one time because the tabs and track brackets on one end were bent slightly. The welds were "torn" (not sure what the correct word would be) halfway.
As said above, if you already have the Happijac system it is more than likely built ready to add the second rail set. Any rv dealer can order the rails, ..... If you are handy and have a welder and some angle it's not hard to copy the design from the existing bed... - joebedfordNomad IITook our second Happijac bed out. I use the other one as a tool shelf.

Any rv dealer can order the rails, you just have to build the wooden part of bed frame and attach it to the rails... Can't remember the price I was quoted for the setup..... If you are handy and have a welder and some angle it's not hard to copy the design from the existing bed.. I built my own rails, really wasn't that hard.
- RUFFSTUFFExplorerI'm actually taking one of ours out!

$4,000?!?!?! what are you smoking? LOL.
adding a second bed is not that expensive. We have a 2014 XLR Hyperlite 27HFS with the happi jac bed and I emailed Forest River for a quote on adding the second bed. the total was about $642.
I think the $4k is for a complete 2 queen bed Happijac system. Who knows what its adds to the cost when factory installed. The Happijac system started being factory installed around 2006, at least in the THs we were looking at. Before that there was some sort of gas pressure spring lever system used for a one queen bed platform. The used 2009 WW we bought came with a Happijac upper queen/lower bench system. The couch folds into a awful halfway between double and queen sized bed. We built a second queen bed platform using 2"x2.5" angle iron, 2"x4"s, and 1/2" & 1/4" plywood for under $200. The track brackets for the bench were the same as the bed platform. The frame around the platform is 3/4"x7" birch, stained (not carpeted) to match the cabinets, but the strange "cherry" colored wood WW used for the cabinets is hard to match. - RVbikersExplorer$4,000?!?!?! what are you smoking? What the heck..... Who shells out that kind of money for a bed? I dont care what it does.
Which led me to find out that those cargo style E track systems have parts which allow you to mount the track to the walls and then build a bed which hangs from the tracks. Kinda cool if you're OK with it looking a little homemade.
Currently I havent done either and I spent the money for some cheap carpet and a bunch of padding. Seems to work fine for the vagrants. - tinner12002Explorer

Anyone had a TH with a single rear queen bunk and added a 2nd one? We need two beds in the back and they seem to be rare in our price range.
Thanks!
I added a second bed frame on my Coachman Adrenaline toy hauler...hard to find all in one...ended up buying/making a frame that I purchased at a surplus RV parts dealer here in IN. All I could find were the short pcs of the frame that mount to the lift mechanism, so I purchased 4 more short ones to make the 2 long sides, added a sheet of plywood and actually use it for light storage. Only had about $60 in the whole thing.
