The suggestion that the base was out of square came from tech support at B&W so it must have happened in the past. At their suggestion, we removed all the hardware so we could put it on a flat surface and discovered that it was warped. We also had a washer hang up and had to destroy it to get it removed. The replacement base was probably damaged by the freight company. The deep scratches were down to bare metal and unacceptable to us. B&W's customer service was great and we had no problems getting the base replacements.
Wow! I'll bet that some of the parts were warped before it was welded together in that case. Interesting. - jnharleyExplorerThe suggestion that the base was out of square came from tech support at B&W so it must have happened in the past. These hitches usually get handled by a trucking company and they are not careful. That hitch would have to be driven over for it to be tweaked for sure!
I'd doubt that even driving over that base would do that to the steel portion of it, but it might bend the bolt portion of the puck locks. Being dropped from a substantial height might have bent one or two as well depending on how it was dropped.
Yea they are hell for stout! I was thinking being driven over by the truck that delivered it.
I would like to know what caused the base not to be properly aligned.
It may have just slipped past QC that way. - Cummins12V98Explorer III

... The hitch base was out of square and would not sit level in the pucks even after the maximum adjustments were made. New base was sent and arrived with deep scratches all the way to the metal. Base three arrived and all was well.
That's the first time I've heard about that initial problem you had (not fitting the pucks) since they re-designed the body. The first version didn't have adjustable feet, and didn't fit every truck - it didn't fit ours when they sent the first one. They redesigned it in short order, and yours is the first I've heard of that didn't work. Did it show any signs of being dropped or anything, or do you think it was a manufacturing defect?
The second problem I've seen in shipping. I think wrapping several layers of bubble wrap would help, but the way some shippers handle them that's bound to happen sometimes.

We just installed the B&W Companion Hitch in our 2015 Dodge dually with the puck system. All did not go as easily as we would have wanted. The hitch base was out of square and would not sit level in the pucks even after the maximum adjustments were made. New base was sent and arrived with deep scratches all the way to the metal. Base three arrived and all was well. We are on our first trip and love how the hitch works. Even though we had difficulties, we are happy with the operation. We did not have any issues getting the base replaced. It was just time consuming.
Doggone....Glad it ended up working out alright....I received mine in two boxes from Tweedy's and it dropped into puck holes as pretty as you please....No adjustements needed to be made..I have my height set in the middle...and hitch sits 2" in front of rear axle....Towed my 5er fine....no chucking....easy to hook up and un-hook....A little pricey, but I believe well worth it.
