Propane question

My fifth wheel has two tanks like most, if I put the knob in the middle and not right or left will it choose the full tank when the other goes empty?

The key point is to always get the empty tank filled as soon as you can after the automatic transfer. If you wait you may find yourself wondering, "Did I fill tank number 2 after I flipped that switch ?"
That's not a comforting thought on a cold night.

It work well IF you always get that empty tank filled immediately after the automatic transfer.
I close the valve on the empty tank when I switch the lever over to the full. Then I open the valve once I reinstall the recently filled tank. That way I know if the valve is closed, it's empty. If the valve is open, it's full. Otherwise, I'll forget.

  • It's just an easy way to remind you which tank needs refilled.
  • Thanks! Very cold tonight and didn’t want to be out at 2am switching it over.
  • Nope. point the indicatoor to either tank 1 or 2. If you are pointed to tank 1 and it goes dry, the valve will transfer to number two if it is open and a red indicator should show. Change the pointer to #2 and it will show green again. Close #1 and disconnect and get the tank refilled.

There should be a manual for the transfer valve in the instruction book.
  • No sir, this is not the way to do it. The lever should be pointing to a full tank. Then when that one runs empty the switch over to the OTHER tank will be automatic. Turn the lever toward that OTHER one when you see the indicator showing empty, fill that empty tank right away and leave the lever pointing as you last set it. Then this cycle will repeat. It works.
