- HvyhaulerExplorerOur current 5er is 96" wide so I keep the mirrors down.I can see down both sides of the trailer with no problems... also with the XPS Ribs I don't need to constantly watch the tires in the mirrors.
- bluie5ExplorerMine is a daily driver so I flip them out to tow and flip them in when not towing.

Then I flip then back when not towing cause truck looks really stupid with 'dumbo ears' sticking out.

For those that leave them out when not towing if you or someone else breaks the big mirror it's a complete replacement. I cracked the small mirror shortly after getting my Ram. Went to the dealer and got the small mirror. Dealer said I'd have to replace the whole mirror if I'd broke the large mirror. Just saying.
Mirror can get broke were towing or not....in either position.
Truck was parked parallel to road across front of CG site (only way anyone could park tow vehicles). 3' from edge of road to side of truck
MH was pulling into site across from us.......new driver.
Pulled onto grassy area to right of road for wider swing into pull-thru.
Tail swing caught my drivers side mirror....and completely destroyed it.
Cost for new replacement.......$640.
MH drivers Ins. (Progressive) was not so happy and played (tried) games.
Don't forget they also fold in against the door! I place mine like that when parked in tight places, or the airport.
I also fold mine in when parked close to someone else... - NC_HaulerExplorer

Alway's have them up, since 05 Chevy dually that I purchased in May of 05 through today and have never had anything happen to a mirror on my dually...not in 10 years.. - rhagfoExplorer III

Flipped up for towing ,otherwise down. Ram needs to learn how to design mirrors like the ford mirrors. Having had both ford ,and Ram the ford are by far the better mirrors. IMO the Ram mirrors in the down position are distracting with the little mirror on the side instead of the bottom where its at when we flip up the mirrors . Ram mirrors are much more functional flipped up, but as said they look a bit dorky ruining empty, but to each his own.
X2....... - Boxer_LoversExplorerI leave them flipped. Used to it.
- PenManExplorerI start out without flipping them up but about a half block from the house I realize I can't see very well and flip them up.
