Rockwood 5th Wheel- suspension?

We’re buying a tiny home that’s been built on a Rockwood 5th wheel trailer for 1991.

We’ve been told from one inspection that it has no suspension, and from another that it has Torsion suspension.

Anyone know of the 1991 rockwood 5th wheel trailer suspension set up?

Thank you so much in advance!

My Rockwood trailer has TorFlex suspension, not leaf springs. That's probably it.
  • Torsion suspension, if rated for the load, is a good thing. It would keep the home lower to the ground, and offers a smooth independent ride, in most cases. In any case, leaf springs or torsion type suspension are both easy to recognize.

  • Tiny homes tend to be much heavier than your typical 5th wheel. If that frame is not strengthened with other steel I would be surprised if it would last. I would also be surprised if the weight is not too much for the axle ratings.

In other words, I would be asking a lot of questions and requiring documentation of weights, axle ratings, wheel and tire ratings, etc.
  • Unless the axles are bolted directly to the frame, it has a suspension. It may not be a great suspension but it will have a suspension.

If some idiot rebuilt it and did bolt the axles directly to the frame...run away because they probably did other stupid things.
