- HalmfamilyExplorerWe have an '06 F350 SRW and have a slider. My fiver has the radius cut corners but I still use my slider at home. I have to jacknife my trailer to get out of my back driveway. It is invaluable when you need it. I like the saying....It's better to have it and not need it than to not have it and need it. Travel on.
- UppercrustExplorerWe have a slider hitch and have never used it. We have had to cut it pretty sharp into a site and had plenty of clearance between cab & front end cap of the camper. We love our truck and how well it tows.
- NHFirefighterExplorerHave used our sliding hitch once in 3 years in a place I shouldn't have been. It is excellent piece of mind. It will be useful in spots that are unlevel and you have to turn. As others have said cap corners will have a lot to do with it.
- wild_acresExplorerI have a 2012 short bed F250 and a slider hitch. I have never had to use it, but for peace of mine, glad I have it. The 2 slides do take up extra room in the bed, but I don't haul much back there.
- rtazz17ExplorerYou will wish you had a slider on that dark late night when you are tired and yourvrig slams into your cab... Get a slider. For nothing more than piece of mind knowing you wont ever hit your cab..You are getting a short bed so if you jack knife it you will prolly hit the cab,..You never know what kind of position you may get into towing your fiver..No brainer for me..
- sail2livExplorerI like a long wheel base for towing.....crew cab w/ 8 ft bed.....2500 HD...
- stro1965ExplorerI don't have a slider but I'm pretty sure I could hit the cab if I tried hard enough.
- a64armtExplorerIf you are looking at an F250, consider an F350 SRW (if a dually isnt an option). I have a 2008 F250 and wish i had purchased the 1 ton cousin. The extra capacity will give you some additional options when 5th wheel shopping.
I have a 6.75' bed and while we don't have a 5er yet, the Hensley hitch we bought came with the simple slide. The 5er we want has a contour front cap, so if we find we dont need it, I will remove it to save weight.
OJ - azjeffhExplorerMy 5er can hit my cab on an extremely sharp turn (e.g. backing in to a site) so I have used my slide a few times for peace of mind.
I really can't say whether you'll need it or not and don't know if you'll need a BedSaver. For me, both are invaluable. - taviking22ExplorerI have a standard (short) 6.5' bed pu. 5W in sig has deep cut radius cap corners and an extended pin box as did my previous 5W. I do not use a slider hitch.
