- retispcsiExplorerExcel makes a nice unit. We did the factory tour last Sep. They were on our short list. We did not buy because they did not have the right plan.
- TXicemanExplorer IIIf you look back, Excel has had a few problems. For a few years, they had some frame flex issues in the front and slides dragging if you tried to operate the bedroom slide while hitched. I think they got this fixed.
Another issue was the floor of some of the slides rotting. They had a poor design on the slide wall to floor seal.
Other wise they seem to be well above the average RV.
NuWa HitchHiker is using Petersen Ind. to build and brand name their trailers since they stopped production.
Ken - kennethwoosterExplorerI've heard nothing but good for an Excel. Would not bother me to buy one . also the wood frame would also not be a problem. I've looked at them and knew they were an excellent product.
- n7bsnExplorerThey are certainly one of the best.
I note one person here didn't like that they were using wood wall framing.
The reality is, it's not wood is better or worse then any of the other methods of building the body, what is important is the workmenship..
The Excel has some of the best workmenship there is, period.
There are a handful (like New Horizon) that are better made, but again why is the quality of the work. - golf_bearsExplorerWe visited their factory a few years ago before we purchased our unit from DRV. Back then they made their own frames, very sturdy.
We didn't buy an Excel because they didn't have a lot of dealers East of the Mississippi. Also, their wall structure back then was with pine 2x4s. I didn't want to take a chance with wet wood on the inside of the walls should they incur a water leak. Nor did I want to be concern about termites. Not sure if they still use 2x4s or if they went with welded aluminum.
They make a good unit if you don't have any concerns as I did. - newman_fulltimeExplorer IIyou want high end fiver look at fork rv
- Traveler_IIExplorerPeterson makes a great product.
- JTracExplorerPeterson Ind does make their own boxed frames. We did a factory tour and they are very impressive. Ours has about 20K miles on it over the past two years and has been mostly trouble free. It is the 3rd Excel we have owned thru the years. We did need to have the large slides adjusted. They do come with a 2 year warranty and after the sale service has been top notch.
Peterson is also making Hitchhikers for NuWa, for sale at Kansas RV. They are made to NuWa specs but might be another consideration. - rockintomExplorerWe are on our 3rd Excel. Built strong and heavy. They have always made their frames in house. Made for FT living. They have issues just like all of RV Industry has. Excel does a pretty good job of handling service issues. Hard to keep something bouncing up down the roads in one piece! Go out and spend some time in the Excel owner's group to find out more.
