- John_JoeyExplorerHate to be a negative person here, but honestly I think you're being a romantic, and not a realist. Seeing the country casino to casino with only a scooter for short trips is hoping for a lot.
If I was you I would get a small TT with a solar panel and a Tundra to pull it. This will give you the ability to figure out what fits your true style, and will be easy to resell when the time comes. Heck, you may even find out that's all an older person with a dog really needs to have a good life on the road. - et2ExplorerHad two travel trailers, 4 fivers and now our MH. I too once siad I'd never have a MH. Ours is a 42' diesel pusher. We will never go back to a fiver. Much more convenient and easier to use. View is way better and driving comfort unmatched by any pickup.
The myth that fivers have more room is just that ... A myth. Our current MH is the same lenght our last fiver was and has more room inside and tons more storage. Another plus is having a toad or your choice to drive around after. It is easier to hookup our toad then it was to hook up our fiver, and it too had auto leveling jacks. - JAXFLExplorerAfter selling the TT and truck when we bought the MH, I said I don't want the cost of having another vehicle I don't need a toad. First trip out with the MH, was to a beach area.... ended up being more than 2 miles to the closest store, for all the stuff you forgot to bring. Second trip out was to Helen GA, up in the mountains (I'll rent a car if needed) no you will not. There is not a car rental in 30 miles and the closest campground is 4 miles from town. For the third trip we had a toad and never have gone any place without it since.
BUT the OP has a dog and a small scooter that he will take so he is good, just needs the Class A or C and will be on the way to a fun life. - BarbaraOKExplorerI don't care if you have a 24' Class C - pull a toad. The process of unhooking is going to get OLD very quickly if you are doing it every day to go see the sights. With a toad, you park the rig and then use that base for sightseeing within a 50-100 mile radius, depending upon your preference. Done, then move on down the road, set up and spend a few days sight seeing, repeat as necessary.
Of course, don't listen to those of us who have been fulltiming for years and have met many, many who said they didn't need a toad - - sure enough within 6 months (or usually less) they are now pulling a toad.

You noted that you will be traveling around the country, alone, with your dog. Based on that criteria, you could do that very well in a Class C and not need to worry about a toad. I had a lot of experience with my FIL's Class A, and our current Class C. Our 27 footer does quite well in cities, parking lots, and even camp ground sites where a Class A or a big fiver wouldn't fit. Our family does more traveling than camping in one spot. But, I think before you make a decision, you might want to consider how you will use it most of the time. If you choose to take it to a spot and not move it for a season, or months, then the fiver might be the best choice.
That was my original plan, but now rather than spend that monthly RV park rent, I think simply traveling around from casino to casino would be more to my liking, staying a couple days at each maybe.
I didn't plan on getting a car to tow if I go the MH way. I have a small scooter I would take on the back. It would be all I would need to go on small excursions.
You just confirmed a small class a like 27' you and the dog have it made. - wildtoadExplorer IImy choice would be a small class A, no slides, room enough to take all I care to take, good holding tank siizes, and good visibility. Unfortunately in this day and time the choices for that configuration is limited to maybe one or two units, if you want new. I'd check out the new Winnebago Brave.

Based on your plan, I would suggest a Class B, or Class C 24 or 27 (max) length. A smaller RV would provide you with most of the amenities of a Class A, but would fit better in parking lots and other no-fee spots. - 2gypsies1Explorer IIIFor one person: A small Class A, Class C or Class B.
