Dish Antenna

I beleive the satellite dish antenna receives, probably dc voltage, from the receiver to operate. There is a F type jack on the side of my camper labeled satellite. There is a cable tv jack next to the satellite jack. Plus there is a RF amplifier which works with the topside crankup antenna. My question and concern is if I connect the dish antenna to the satellite jack, will this burn up the RF amplifier? Or is the camper interior satellite cabling a seperate system? If there is a seperate cabling scheme for satellite and cable and RF, then there should be two f type jacks in the entertainment system, one for cable/rf and the other for satellite and there are!! but not labeled. So my question is, can I use the satellite jack on the side of the camper for my dish antenna. Thanks for your input--be safe!!

If it's just a straight-thru connector, not a splitter, then most likely. You are right, there is a voltage which the receiver supplies to the lnb, and that gets messed up with a splitter.

Yes, but turn off the amplifier.

Sorry, but that's not correct. A campground cable connection and a OTA TV connection is shared by the amplifier (actually not an amp but a power supply) but not a satellite TV connection.
  • To the OP, you can connect the satellite antenna coax to that port marked Satellite and you then must find the other end of that connection and connect that directly to the receiver. It might be a wall plate with a coax connector or it might be a loose cable where ever the manufacturer planned for you to use a satellite receiver.
  • The Satellite connection is a dedicated cable straight to the receiver, bypassing any splitters and amplifiers.

Thank you Bill...you are correct! After thinking about it, my sat. is independent of that wall plate. Sorry for any confusion.
