Free Camping BLM around Bend Oregon!

Around Wikiup reserv. is free camping. If you go out Burgess Road (from 97 just north of LaPine --south of the RR track), to the end where you turn left or right, turn left. Then eventually you see a sign for South Twin lake and North Twin lake to the left. Take that left and go PAST the Sheep Bridge Campground. To the right is a dirt road....go down that. There is free camping there (at least last year unless BLM changed their minds). Also, further around the lake on the other side you'll find free camping. :) :) Have fun...one of my favorite places to camp! (we lived in Lapine for 10 yrs)

:) Trying to think of other areas. I'm sure the other lakes have areas you camp boondock around, but I can't give you exact locations. Crane Prairie has some that are cool. Always wished we had a pickup and camper to access them. :) Wikiup has Kokanee ......if you catch one, don't tell me. I've NEVER been able to catch one!
East and Paulina Lakes don't have boondocking....they're in a National Monument and have blocked all boondocking off.

There are more free camp spots in Central Oregon than you could visit in a lifetime. I've lived in Bend for 30+ years and find great new spots all the time.

Wow what great resonses guys! Oddly, I am currently renting a Flea-Bag Doublewide in La Pine. I came to Bend to visit my remaining family and now they won't let me leave but I have a plan. I sold the TC in the picture as it was a 94 and had some serious issues and now looking to replace it with something a bit newer. Lots of them here and going to look at some today!

There is an inner strength you get when you are full timing!
Somebody once wrote on this site that I time comes when you feel so free and so empowered full timing. Well the next one will be my 3rd. RV ownership and the short time I was full time when I came to Bend got me close to that feeling.

As for Bend, I remain totally surprised there are so many great spots and for the seemingly lax attitude on the part of authority here verses the failed state of California!
I guess that's why so many Snowbirds come here in the summer months. If my plan goes well, I'll be here playing on the river for summer and Havasu/Blythe/Parker Strip playing on the river for the great desert RV winter seasons...

Hi Guys, update to Hugemoth and the quorum.. I have been back to full time for over 6 weeks now and while there have been some worrisome issues with the camper.. I love it!
I am hanging out in Florence Oregon now and have found several acceptable overnight spots but most seem to "expire" all too soon.

I am sending out this quandary over the RV.Net proverbial "loudspeaker" to all in hopes that some may have dispersed or any other O/N info for Coastal Oregon in general.
It now appears that my health is vastly improved at sea level (lung issues) so until it is time to do the Snowbird thing, I need to stay low!!!

Question: Is it true that National Parks always allow some areas of free camping and that State Parks never ever allow it?

Today is Sunday Aug 28 and I am planning a trip to Waldport tomorrow as there appears to be a FS Office there. I am interested in maps and more info on staying free!! Any input appreciated..

The USFS Motor Vehicle Use Maps show areas where dispersed camping is allowed. Referencing the MVUM to the Google Maps satellite layer can help locate promising spots. Visit to the Forest Ranger office can get you likely spots right from the people on the ground.

No. I think the only NP that allows dispersed is Death Valley. Oh, and Redwoods has a couple specific areas, but they are pretty remote IIRC.

I just read that Anza borrego SP allows dispersed camping, so maybe some sdo, too.
