I'm not badmouthing GS, simply pointing out a common issue. AAA has its issues and so does every other roadside service. They all have their good points also.
Agreed - toedtoesExplorer IIIOthers (including me) have been told by GS operators that they cannot release the tow truck until they confirm with a contracted shop that they will accept the rig. So, again, it's not a guarantee.

They all have their positives and negatives. I have found that none are perfect.
AAA - will tow you where you want to go; this means they will come out to you as soon as possible.
GS/CN - will tow you to the closest approved shop on their list that answers their phone and agrees to take your rig. This means the tow truck won't arrive until a shop has been found.
The difference with these is that if you break down after normal shop hours, holidays, etc, GS/CN can have you waiting for hours because they can't get a hold of a shop. If you break down out of your known area, AAA expects you to find the shop - they just take you to where you go.
Because of this, I have found that the extra cost of having AAA and GS/CN gives me better results - I pick the service that will best meet the circumstances.
GS will also take you after hours to a local shop they have on their list. I did this a year ago. They picked up my truck and transported it to the closest shop where I put the keys in the night box. Next day got a call from the shop and got it taken care of.
That happens when they have a contract with a shop that offers after hours drop-offs. It's not a guarantee - if there is no shop on contract offering the drop off, you can spend a day or more waiting to get a tow to a shop.
None are perfect - none are useless. For me, having a combination gives me the best results.
The tow truck was not affiliated with the shop. When they arrived I told them where we were going. GS just gave me a list of about 5 shops that were close by since I didn't know the area. The shop that did the repair had no contact with GS and was not even aware that GS was the one that did the tow.
This was roadside assistance not extended warranty. - jake2250ExplorerWell, the good part is,,,,,,,,,,,,,,You got in on GS at the introductory price,When is is almost more than double at renewal time,AAA will still be the same price!

I was going to renew my AAA Roadside Service premium membership, but then I stumbled upon Good Sam Roadside Service, saw that they provided all the same benefits for a lower yearly price and decided to sign up. Glad I did!
You joined the forum today.....JUST so that you could post that glowing praise......of a service that you haven't even used yet ??
I hope you will understand if I say that looks a little suspicious.

AAA has more exceptions and limited coverage as not all areas, towns, states provide the same coverage with AAA:(
