I'm so impressed with this that I think I will post it in a new thread too. I probably won't do that until I can confirm that it really works.

I just got off the phone with a Pilot representative.
THEY CALLED ME. AMAZING.

My problem was that my card was "never properly activated"......although I was not told that needed to be done.
He said it should have happened "automatically" whatever that means.

So now my card should work to automatically give me a 3 cent discount automatically at the pump. We will see. It might be a while before I can test it out. The station closest to me is so busy you almost can't turn a car around in the parking lot, much less an RV........and I use GAS so I can't go around back with the big trucks either.

And just to recap: This is a GOOD SAM Membership card; it is NOT the credit card.

When I'm at an intersection with Pilot and another brand at 3 cents less then it's a wash as to which one. In either case I still get the 5% cash back.

I get the 3 cents discount. In the RV lanes I get 5% monthly cash back on my PenFed card and in the truck lanes I get 5% yearly cash back on my Amex card.

I don't understand the attraction to the GS charge card!

As I said earlier, it is just not worth all of that effort.

Even filling my RV with 35 gallons I only save a buck......and can usually do better elsewhere without all the hassle.

And I can get in and out without getting the feeling that I am navigating a rush hour traffic jam on the freeway.

Neither business involved REALLY cares but both should.

An earlier reply informed me of "the list"; first I knew of it.

I think it is highly unlikely that all 3 stations I visited were independents, especially since they honored the discount inside.

WHY DO WE SAY “SELECT” PILOT AND FLYING J LOCATIONS?
We say "select locations" for 2 reasons:

1. The state of Wisconsin does not allow fuel discounts due to state law.

2. Pilot Flying J has "dealer" locations, which are locations they do not own. As such, these locations can choose to "opt out" of the discount programs. Dealer locations are only required to give the discount for diesel at the truck diesel lanes and only for transactions started at the pump. Dealer locations do not offer discounts on gasoline and do not accept the cards in store.

With all due respect to Mr Siemens and the poster.

The above is precisely the problem.

Too many different cards, Too many different levels of discounts, Too complicated and too "dense", too many rules and exceptions.

Get Smart: One Card. Give everyone the same discount. Make it work reliably at all pumps at ALL participating stations. Get the Staffs trained. This is not rocket science. It's a discount card working over a computer network that rarely if ever has a problem processing your payment. Only the discount.

Did you (OP) check "the list" to see if the station(s) you are using are independent dealers? Indies sell under the P/FJ brand but are independently owned and operated and not required to update their auto-lane pumps to use the same system that P/FJ stations use.

Glad you brought up this subject since we now know one can (in theory) "double dip" by using the GS Swipe & Save discount (3cents/gallon) and pay with a Discover card when they offer 5% cashback on gas. That would be a bigger discount than just using the P/FJ credit card and getting 6 or 8 cents per gallon on diesel.
