Morning all. We have a new to us Country Coach Allure that has a slow starting generator.When starting generator we hit the glow plugs for a few then hit start. It turns over real slow like a dead battery. Even with coach running and battery boost on it will start but just barely.Since the connections and starter are on the inside of the generator I am wondering if anyone has had a similar problem before I tear into this thing.I am steering toward a ground, loose connection or starter.House batteries are new and fully charged. All connections checked on battery and ground in battery compartment.Any ideas would be great!

Check the batteries. Just because they're new does not mean they are good.Double check the connections.Always do the simple things first.

Are you sure it is starting off the house batteries and not the chassis batteries?

Yes I load tested batts and they are good. I checked all connections in compartment, pos and ground. All good on both 8d batts. I need to get my long jumper cables and ground the engine on the generator and run to the battery ground to eliminate the chasis ground on gen. And yes, I have a breaker that goes from house batts to gen for starting. I even by passed the breaker to check it too.

Try pressing the "boost" switch on your dash while trying to start the generator. This will tie both your house and chassis batteries together. If this does not help, check the ground and positive connections at the generator itself.

Have someone go through the start sequence while you use a digital voltmeter to check voltage at the generator. Check between positive lug and generator ground and then positive lug and good ground on chassis metal to see if it may be a ground-side issue.

Yes boost helps with engine running but still starts slowly. I am dreading checking the connections as they are on the inside of unit I think. I don't have any schematics on generator I don't think. Should look at manual for gen I guess.

Any chance that this is "normal" for that particular generator?

Giving the specific make and model might get you better answers.

Diesels in general turn a bit slower and SOUND like they are turning a lot slower because of less whine in the starter.

That could be your problem. A corroded/loose connection that you can't see, easily.
Let us know if you find the problem.

What is the model of your genset? Some of the enclosed models have their own battery inside of the housing.

No it starts from house batteries. It's a 7500 I think.
