2009 Damon Daybreak

We are looking seriously at a Model 3575, Ford Chassis. I believe this model year units were made by Thor, based on other threads.

My question to other owners of this model year, (+/- 1 year), what are your thoughts on the build quality of this type of RV? Any readers specifically with the 3575, please give your thoughts as I am interested.

FWIW, the asking price is low NADA and condition is excellent.
  • We went to see the unit and it was in real good condition. This model has opposing sofas; 1 jackknife, 1 a pull out sofa bed. The problem we noted was when the sofa bed is fully pulled out, there is no room left for extending the jackknife. We were hoping to use both simultaneously when we take our older college age kids and maybe grandkids camping with us and expand sleeping capacity (when needed).

I noticed online a number of aftermarket RV sofas that seem to require less room when extended.

I was looking for anyone who removed their stock sofa and replaced with a good aftermarket that better suited their needs.

If yes, please share the supplier and who did the work.

    Much thanks.
  • Slides had issues when new that were the fault of the dealer not knowing how to adjust them. I downloaded the instructions from the manufacturer and they were very straightforward. Step by step. I went through the adjustment to get all the cables the right length and position and the slides perform well since. Did have one trip where they would not extend fully, just to a point and stop. I removed the access cover above the slide, inside the coach and the problem was obvious. We had traveled some VERY bumpy roads that day and the cables had flopped across each other. I simply lifted the crossed cable back to its normal position and all was well again. Normally the tension in the cables is sufficient to keep them in place but this once it was not. Never had a problem with the smaller slide in the bedroom.

One sofa folds out into a bed, the other is a jack knife fold out. They would open at the same time but blocked access front to rear. We removed the jack knife on the street side (not on the slide) and replaced it with a recliner and table. Much more useful for us. The dinette also folds down into a bunk.

When I first got the unit it swayed a bit like nearly all Ford chassis units do because Thor had not set the sway bar correctly for the load. Repositioned the end links on the sway bar to the more aggressive position (inner mounting hole on bar) and sway is much improved. Check out a thread 'Cheap Handling Fix' as it applies to nearly all Ford Chassis motorhomes. Very stable now. Easy to drive.
  • Jcthorne: I noticed on the unit the slides are cable driven. Any issues you had with the slides?
Do you travel with kids/grandkids? If yes, how do you configure for sleeping? It seems that both the sofa bed and jacknife sofa cannot be used at the same time. What about handling? Does the unit sway or is it stable with the stock chassis? Thanks.
  • We own a 2008 Damon Daybreak 3575. Its the 38ft forward kitchen, dual slide with a king bedroom option. This model was removed from the Daybreak line when the Daybreak line shifted to Thor and a similar feature coach was added to the Challenger line. This large coach and option package did not fit well in the Daybreak (entry level) line.

We have owned ours for several years now and are generally pretty happy with it. Have made a few upgrades to replace some low end materials but love the floorplan, storage and features at the price point. We replaced all the laminate counter tops and dining table with solid surface and replaced the front vinyl captians chairs with leather seats.

Please feel free to ask any specific questions. Be glad to help.
  • Thor took over Damon in 2003 they now operate as Thor motorized but still built in the same place just different name. They are entry level good bang for the buck. Ford Chassis is solid but obviously not a diesel pusher. I have a Challenger as well had some problems with Jacks and 2 Hyd. lines other than that no real problems. How many miles are on it? Do you like the lay out any slides does it have jacks?

You will probably get a lot of good input here but if you would like more go to www.IRV2.com and go to the Thor forum. You can ask a lot of questions there to a lot of Thor owners. Good luck with your RV purchase.
  • I own a 2000 year V-10 Damon Intruder 341. I think it's a very well built RV. I've looked alot of Motor Homes in the same class, and I haven't really found anything yet I'd replace it with.
  • Damon has always been owned by Thor. However recently the Damon brand has been removed and the MH's are marketed as Thor Daybreak.

We own a Thor/Damon Challenger (a level up from the Daybreak) and are very happy with it.
