- Blaster_ManExplorerlanerd...check this out: www.irv2.com then go to the Allison thread.
- lanerdExplorer IICat320....Well, not quite. While under warranty, you had better follow (and keep records/proof) the mfg'ers schedule or you might find the warranty voided. Once the warranty is up, then I too agree with having the fluid tested prior to changing.
- Cat320ExplorerSeveral posters have already mentioned this, but I'll mention it again. If you have the Transynd tested annually, it is fine until the test comes back and says you need to change it. Until then, there is no need or no requirement to change it.
- SnomasExplorerI had a trans service done w/synthetic fluid. cost $250. good for 50K miles.

Last year when ours was done it was five gallons of Transynd @ 46.08/gal; one filter at 94.04 + tax and one hour of labor at 105/hr for a total of 437.43 We have changed ours every three years regardless of the mileage.
Yes 36 months is the shelf life for the fluid.
You can extend your change interval with Transcend and doing oil sampling as long as it test good.

I believe the manual says to change out the fluid and filters on a new unit when either 3 years or 36,000 miles. There after you're to change the fluid every three years and filters every four years (I may have that reversed). Our motor homes will never see 150,000 miles in three years, so it's best just to do as "accsys" does and do fluid/filter every three years.
BTW, I also believe that all 3000MH Allisons have two filters. Drain fluid and replace plug. Then remove each filter one at a time and replace. Refill with the correct amount of Transynd. Having the fluid checked at Blackstone (or other labs) is an excellent idea. This will tell you how the trans is operating and if the fluid has any foreign material in it.
You can have it flushed out completely, but highly suggest a reputable service tech to do it unless you are experienced at it.

Doesn't your's have the oil life monitor along with the fluid change notification? Page 74 and 75 in my manual.
I've used Blackstone for years but figured I'd skip the ATF test with this monitor.
Wow! Shows to go ya. My previous coach with the 3000MH didn't have this feature and I was totally unaware of it. Thank you for pointing it out to me.
So it looks like unless the Oil Monitor (OM) says it's time (right now it reads 97%), I can go 60 months (since new) before changing. Great news....as that stuff is not cheap.
I guess I really need to read the manual from front to back.
Ron - ncrowleyExplorer IIIn the Freightliner school, they told me to change the transmission fluid every 4 years.
