- redwingfansExplorerMy wife and I laughed about this question for the entire 3 weeks we were in and around Yellowstone National Park. We were an RV when it worked in our favor, and a conversion van *passenger van" when the signs said no RV or Trailers, at 20 feet we fit in a normal parking space.
- qhorExplorerIf you need to park in the truck area, the truckers would prefer you don't pull to the front of the parking spot, so when they approach they can see the spot is occupied and not have to get partially in the spot and find out there is a unit in the spot already but partially hidden. A real hassle for them.
- rockhillmanorExplorerIf you fit into a regular parking space USE it! Even if you stick out a little past the end. The roads in a rest area are wide enough to accommodate a little past the end of the lines.
Please leave the RV and truck spots for those that 'need' it. :C - EscargotExplorer

At 22 feet long and 8ft. 8in. tall I take the farthest auto slot when parking diagonally at a rest stop. That way I am not blocking the view of oncoming traffic for anyone who may want to back out. Being higher, I usually have no problem looking over the others when I back out. If the slots are perpendicular to the curb I back in so I have a really good view when leaving. It amazes me that few people ever consider how they will leave the space they have decided to drive into before they drive into it.
This. - jjraiExplorerI save the RV spaces for the larger units if at all possible.

- Golden_HVACExplorerI would recommend the much less crowded car parking lot if you are only 20 - 25 feet long. The spaces are surprisingly large, and usually 9' wide and 20 feet long. Many times I have found so many trucks in the truck and towing area, that they have to use the bypass at the very end of the parking lot, and to back onto the freeway, so they get no break from driving.
My grandmother's 1978 LDT 4 door car was about 22' long. No kidding.
Good luck,

Common courtesy is dependent on the circumstances, time of day as well (trucks usually get off the road later in the afternoon). If the auto lot is close to chock full, while the truck spaces are empty, I'll opt for a truck space out of courtesy for the autos.
At 22.9" the auto spaces don't always accommodate for length, most especially in older rest stops. - davepcpowernetExplorer

Especially if need to use the handicapped parking space. As a comparison, a wheelchair lift van is about the same as most of the Bs. - cruiserjsExplorerCommon courtesy would say leave the longer spots for those who need them!! park that B as tho' it is a car!
