Best way to seal this part??

Ok. there are multiple occurrences going to be happening to fix this application. What form of solution, and products have you folks used in the past to cover and stop leaks for this?. On a conventional use I would just tar the ting to death. Dycor seems to be the general accepted from of self leveling sealant used by looking at most post.
Should I run a piece of tape down both sides, and the front before using the sealant first , or is that just over kill.

  • Dicor self leveling sealer is a disaster waiting to happen. It cracks and causes leaks. Never was a quality product. The OP's picture proves my point. Why do you think Eterna Bond tape is so popular. Sikaflex 715 can be used any place Dicor is used. Apply it and forget it, it won't crack and peal up like Dicor. It costs more but you get what you pay for.

  • If you want to keep the railing I would remove it completely. Use Dicor in the around the area of the standards and screw holes. Then replace with stainless screws and Dicor again over the screw heads. Anything more would be overkill.
  • From the looks of things, I'd say you have more than a seal issue. I'd say you have water intrusion under the roof.

I see rusty screw heads and visible gaps in the seal, both sure signs you have issues underneath.

I don't intend to use the Luggage rack for anything. It looks kind of cool in a vintage kinda way. If I took it off and polished it back to a shiny luster.
I have thought about just taking it off, and putting slightly larger stainless screw in the same spot with a large flat head on it. then I could cover it with tape and be over it. Not pictured is a large storage box that is mounted on the roof. This I plan on repairing with fiberglass, then repainting painting white and reinstalling it the same location.
I will probly just taKe the darn thing off. The only thing it is doing is keepin me from falling off, if i decide to slide around the roof.

The roof on our new TT was recently replaced (long story) and I had them just leave the squirrel railing off.

  • Are you going to use the luggage rack? If not, I would remove it then plug and seal the holes.
