Better way to stow 30 amp cord in small cubby hole

Has anyone figured out a better method of how to stow away the shore power cord in the small cubby holes our Class Cs come with other than just trying to wrap the cord up as you stuff it in the hole?

The cord on our new Concord is 25' long and while it isn't that stiff, it is difficult to get it inside the 8" x 8" hole in the side of the coach (haven't measured exactly but seems that small) while trying to lay it out in a way that it will all fit in there.

I'm trying to find some sort of cord reel that is long and skinny that I can wrap the cord up on before putting it in the hole but nothing so far. Any tips or tricks you can share?

Edit: the hole is 6" x 6" x 21" deep

  • On our old rig, I replaced the 25 foot cord with a two foot pigtail. I then made the 25 foot cord into an extension cord with a female cord body on end removed from the rig. I then stored the "extension" cord in a compartment.
    No more fighting small hole!
  • Yeah that may help...where the cord drops out of the generator receptacle it is attached to the floor of the box with a clip and it does get in the way. I may try to move that clip and point the cord to the back and reattach it some how. Thanks...
  • I coil mine up on the bottom of the compartment without much trouble. It looks like if you could put the cord that drops down in front, in the back, it would make it easier to coil the cord as you put it in.

I have a cord tie that I tried to do that with, but the hole being so far up off the ground made it difficult to hold it together while trying to tie it up.

A long skinny extension cord reel might work, I swear I've seen them before but no luck so far in finding one.
