I have been to the brand new campground on post at Fort Belvoir and it is GORGEOUS. Everything is brand spanking new and to be able to sit right by the Potomac for what they charge is awesome if you ask me. I feel like I have a very elite Potomac-side residence without the crime, noise, traffic and pollution. I suggest you check it out (and no I do not work there LOL but I do work on post.

Where on post? MWR? LOL
You're in the minority. Check out the reviews at militarycampgrounds.us. This is a site dedicated to active and retired military and DOD civilian RVers. The reviews are universally negative for this campground. - shaybaranowskiExplorerI have been to the brand new campground on post at Fort Belvoir and it is GORGEOUS. Dutchman Sport,
since you lived in that area close to DC during those years, do you remember or did you see, when the military was doing testing on upper flow currents & one late night in the summer the sky turned purple.
I was driving trucks during that time & had a delivery in the Woodbridge area & seen that. Man I thought I had got a hold of some bad coffee on the last stop & thought I was tripping, it really happen though & even asked the person where I was delivering was I seeing things & they seen it as well.

Sorry.Don't remember that.
Ok, I could hardly believe it myself, but other seen it as well. It was reported on the tv news the next few days, that the military sent a rocket up & exploded it to test the wind currents. Was like in the early 80s.

If you are retired military or 100% disabled vet, Belvoir has a new Famcamp that just opened this year ... $60.00 per night.
Yeah, but according to the FamCamp manager, it's a bargain for what you get there! They have FULL hookups and you can see the Potomac River from the campground. :)
Seriously, there is a big controversy going on about this campground. It appears nobody connected with it has the first idea how to run a campground and that the cost is way out of line for what is available there. Other military campgrounds in the area charge $25 - $30 a day for a FHU site, but when this was pointed out by many people to the Famcamp manager there, her response was that Fort Belvoir is a destination resort and a money generating enterprise, so the fee is appropriate. She really does believe that full hookup sites, with concrete pads, and a view of the river qualifies the place as a resort destination. (There are no other amenities there, according to recent reviews.)
It's been reviewed a few times at the militarycampgrounds.us website and it's gotten nothing but bad reviews since it opened. - bywaysExplorer

I was stationed at Fort Belvoir from 1985 to 1988, and then lived in Manassas, VA for another year after that before moving back to the mid-west. I was a chaplain assistant and worked out of the main post chapel. Both our children were born at DeWitt Army Hospital.
Fast forward to 1999. My wife worked for a company that merged with another company and the corporate headquarters was in Reston, VA. We took a trip back to the DC area to show the kids where they were born and where we lived. We also lived in Woodbridge for a year too, and on post housing, Lewis Heights and later Peterson Loop.
So we ended up staying at the Fairfax County campground very near Reston. It's a nice campground and has a water park also. This was the closest campground we could find near Fort Belvoir when we went back in 1999. We've never been back since then.
The Fairfax County Parks web site will have more information and phone numbers. Good luck.
I couldn't resist. I was born there. Did you know me? June 11, 1961. Okay, so we missed the mark by a few years! - khahunaExplorerIf you are retired military or 100% disabled vet, Belvoir has a new Famcamp that just opened this year ... $60.00 per night.
