Oh and my ball/receiver is rated for 10,000lbs, but the hitch on motorhome I can only rate that at 7500lbs at this time.

But if I flat towed a fullsize truck and have seen many do it and some have it on their profile with a gas motorhome no one says a thing, when I go over by 600lbs or so with a trailer and 4 brakes many have a field day with it..

How many on the 5th wheel forum have 35 footers 2 slides outs and single wheel trucks..

I spent a lot of $$ and extra welding here and there to make this as safe as possible, heck I might as well go get a mini 4 cly truck and tow a 35 foot travel trailer so you and others like lbligh know what over the limit really is..

Yep, Massachusetts...
Here is what the actual law says (copy and paste directly from the MA gov website):
General Laws, Chapter 90, Section 7
"Every trailer or semi-trailer having an unladen weight of more than ten thousand pounds shall be equipped with air or electric brakes."

So, it would appear that ANY trailer that weighs less than 10K empty does not need brakes, and surge brakes are not acceptable on those trailers where brakes are required.
That is, IMO, absolutely ridiculous!
But, their state, their laws, and I will probably never go there, so I don't really care.

EDIT: However, it would behoove any MA resident to comply with the laws in other states, since brake laws are usually NOT reciprocal! Any MA resident who tows a trailer into a state where a trailer over 1500 lbs. unladen weight has to have brakes on all wheels, plus a breakaway system that will apply and hold the trailer brakes for 15 minutes, must comply with THEIR laws! A trailer that only complies with the MA law could never leave the state!

What state requires brakes on ALL trailers, regardless of weight (my utility trailer, from Tractor Supply, as well as most Harbor Freight trailers, would be illegal to sell there)?
Every state law I have seen either requires brakes on trailers of 1500 lbs or more UNLADEN weight, or trailers of 3000 lbs. or more Gross Vehicle Weight.
Some states have a Braking Performance Standard similar to the standard in FMVSS.
Montana has both.

Does this mean i cant tow my 7k gvwr trailer behind my 5k rated mh even if i dont load anything in it ? What about being able to go to 129,000 lbs with a tractor trailer combo, is there a rated tractor to go that heavy ? Oh so many questions. TinMac, enjoy your new setup, it looks good.

Are you aware that I do know the weight of Jeep, boat, boat motor, etc, they have weight stamps on them and its very easy to add up, as to the trailer no I have not had it weighed but when buying the steel here in Vegas at Curtis Steel they noted the exact weight of steel on receipt, even weight of axels listed by Henderson axels, the rest of the other stuff was a highly engineered guess, even DMV accepted the dry weight of 1500 lbs.

And it all adds up to about 5600 lbs.
