Diesel exhaust fume in cabin of 2003 Fleetwood Excursion

I purchased a used 2003 Fleetwood Excursion last Sat. from Camping World. Did my walk through that afternoon and everything seemed to be in good working order. By the way, this is my first RV. I live approx. 25 miles from where the purchase was made. Drove home and thought I smelled diesel fumes. Took it back a couple of days later and asked the sales person to come inside to see if he could smell the fumes. He said it smelled like cleaning fluids. Drove it back home and after a couple of days, I noticed a diesel leak under the generator. I drove it back to Camping World and noticed diesel fumes in the cabin after the 25 mile drive, pretty strong at that. I left it there Sat. one week after the purchase. I am waiting for the call saying they have made the necessary repairs. Got the impression that they are going to try to make me pay for the repairs. Any advice?

Bruce, I think he's talking way up forward where the gennie is. I have the 2014 Excursion and occasionally get fumes from the access hatch as well - ours is in the bedroom. Reseated the hatch a couple of times and its gone away. We will be having the ARG service center in Oregon taking a look at it in June just to make sure.

Since your access is in the bathroom, it could very well be you're getting fumes in via the vents instead of the hatch.

  • What was the solution to the fumes in cabin problem?

We have a 2014 Fleetwood Discovery with the same problem. The dealer replaced the gaskets around the rear access hatch (in the aft bathroom)but the problems persists.

    Thanks.
  • It would be really nice if they fixed it and it would make you a CW customer for life but its really up to them. Hopefully they will do the right thing and fix it. Say let us know if they do, it will be a feather in their cap. They need all the friends they can get. Not allot of fans on this list. But because you brought up the problem, if they fix it you do the right thing as well and post it on the list.
  • What were the terms of the sale?
    Any warrantee?

I purchases a used MH from a camping world some years ago.
They gave me a full PDI, showed me how everything worked, agreed to fix anything that didn't work.
I came back after they had done so, had another full PDI, verified the work was completed.

    Then I paid them.

And they made it perfectly clear that any warrantee was up when the rear bumper cleared the parking lot curb.
