My crank up sat DIRECTV dish has two ports. I run one port to an old DIRECTV Rcvr in MAIN Home entertainment and the other SAT DISH port to the bedroom are using a second old SAT RCVR.
My SAT ANTENNA has two RG CABLES coming from the roof into a DUAL RG F-CONNECTOR socket i made up in the cabinet where all the RADIO CABLETV and now SAT TV comes too.. My DIRECTV dish only gave me standard SAT TV channels (NOT HDTV signals)...
Having the SAT DISH separated from the other HDTV cables solves a bunch of problems for me.
Our older SAT RCVRS was on a current DIRECTV ACCOUNT in my house. I just moved the SAT RCVRS to the trailer. I almost every time doing the inital setup would have to log-in to DIRECTV and reset the SAT RCVR unit. It seems my older SAT RCVRS would lose their memory when I unplugged them from the house. At first I was calling the 800 number for DIRECTV and talking with an agent. Then I found out you can do the same thing ON-LINE with the computer so we did that when we could. Just make sure you have the DirecTv Account including which location it was in your house info and SAT RCVR chip address on hand. I taped all of that info on the SAT RCVR case... I never had any problems doing this all out in the open with Directv Blessings over the two or more years we did this... We did lose out local TV receptions however when ever we moved outside our local ZIP CODE area so had to use the OTA Crankup to pickup the local towns NATL BROADCAST stations.
I use the VIDEO OUTPUT from the SAT RCVRs instead of selecting CH3 or Ch4 and run that to a VIDEO JACK on each of the TVs. Then using the TV REMOTE I can select either TV for watching channels from the CABLE or OTA CONNECTIONs or the SAT TV using one of its VIDEO PORTS and never move away from the big easy chair hehe...
All looked great to me.
After the NATL BROADCAST came out with DIGITAL TV in 2009 I just stopped bringing along my SAT RCVRS and finally dropped the DIRECTV ACCOUNT.
We get our fill just fine now using the crankup BATWING OTA antenna on our RV pointing at the local towns near where are at. It is full blown HIGH DEF TV as well. Much better than what we was picking up from the CABLE TV and the SAT TV...
However we do miss some of the SAT TV stations like WX CHANNEL or CNN NEWS. The local stations CBS-ABC-FOX-NBC channels are great though. Turns out each of the OTA towers we pick up each has six channels they can use and most often we find a 24/7 live RADAR going for the area we are in. Camping in the OFF-ROAD POPUP sort of nice being able to watch the weather fronts in real time...
Hope this helps some...
Have no idea how all of the modern RV HDTVs work... Way too much electronics for me to deal with...
In my 5th wheel I have a 26-inch LCD HDTV in the main room and a 22-inch HDTV in the bedroom. My POPUP has the 22-inch HDTV. All are VIZIOs from WALMART.
OTA HDTV using the BATWING antenna with dipoles comes in great in almost all of the areas we like to camp at...
