Draining hot water tank

Hi everyone,

Is it necessary to drain the hot water tank when the MH is sitting for several months between trips? I live in the SW so freezing temps are not a problem.

Thanks,
Bill
  • I Drain my water heater at least twice a year.
This is due to the hard water and calcium build up.we spend our winters out here in Arizona.
You wouldn't believe the white chunks that come out. We also have a soft water heater in use.
  • I flushed mine several times and used vinegar on it when I bought it. I use a three filter system on it and have only drained it twice in the last seven years and that was when I winterized it while up north.

As stated above, when was last time you drained your home water heater?

If you're winterizing it, once a year is more than enough,

    Bill
  • I do know that Suburban states to drain the water heater when not going to be used for a while.
  • We drained it every fall when we winterized.

  • You drain to keep the water and inner tank lining from getting the dreadful sulpher(rotting egg) smell. Doug
  • If several months, yes I would drain it.
Especially if it wasn't filled from a water source I know. If it was filled from my well, I know there is not a Sulphur issue. Others, it can stink something terrible when you heat it up and run it into the camper.
  • my rv is a 2007 drain the tanks every trip and the hot tank. if not that tank of hot water could smell really bad. p.s 2007 and the hot tank is org.
  • You don't drain your hot water heater at home when you leave for a few weeks or month do you? The same goes for your RV hot water heater. Oh by the way it's a cold water heater. It probably is best to not drain it because if it's full and oxygen will not get in and cause parts to rust.
