Finding power for EezRv TPMS Install

I just bought a EezRv TPMS system for my 2011 Winnebago Itasca 32K. I've found a great place to mount the monitor and setting everything up seems pretty straighttforward.

My question is, how do I find the right wires/place to hardwire the power to the monitor? It says that I should wire it into power that is turned on and off by the ignition key, and that's what I'd like to do. There's a 12V plug right next to where I'm going to mount it, but that plug is always on whether the engine is on or not.

Any advice or guidance on how to figure out where to wire the power to under the dash? I'm comfortable with electronics and using a multi-meter to figure out what's on/off with the engine, but there are a ton of wires down there, most of which don't look like the type that should be tapped in to.

Thanks.

  • Just to let everyone know what happened: I found a fuse that turns on and off with the ignition and used the fuse splitter to tap into it. The power works perfectly. Thanks for the suggestion!

In regards to the EEZRV TPMS system I bought, it works fairly well. Two complaints, really. First, the mount is increadibly loose where it attached to the monitor. It works, but it doesn't hold the monitor well at all, the monitor just kind of sites there and rests on it. I contacted EEZRV and they didn't see the problem with that and suggested that I use some velcro to install it more firmly (????).

The unit itself works well and is easy to set up. It sometimes doesn't pick up the TPMS unit on the wheel that's furthest from it. So, I'm not sure it'd do real well if I was pulling a trailer and wanted to monitor those tires. I might try installing the external antenna for the monitor to see if that'll fix it.

    Thanks.

If you have or will be adding other devices such as GPS, dash cam, camera monitor, etc. think about adding a 6 to 10 position fuse block wired to battery thru a dash switch. When done driving flip one switch and everything turns off.
  • I have the Eez Rv tire monitoring system. The internal battery lasts for days without recharging.
Traveling 6-8 hours a day on a recent trip, unit never failed. I charged it at a convenient time but it never ran low.
  • I haven't taken mine on the road yet, but am planning to see if the battery lasted throughout the day, then plug in and charge over night.
  • Great idea on the fuse splitter. The fuse box is right beneath where I want to mount the monitor, so that's perfect.

    I've ordered it. Thanks!
  • I plugged mine into the lighter plug and just unplug it when parked. Advantage here is you can plug it in before you fire up the engine to check tires. Of course, you could always just turn it on with the switch and use the internal battery.

Easiest - put a 12v plug on the wire and plug it into that outlet when driving, unplug when not driving.

Best - get under the dash and find the fuse box. Use a VOM to find an empty fuse slot that is only hot with the ignition and use it.

Second Best - buy a fuse splitter, pull out a fuse from a switched circuit, plug this in with 2 fuses, and you have a hot wire.
