Fleetguard Fuel Filter #1242 question

Today I changed the fuel filters on my 2004 HR Endeavor ISC 330 hp. I removed the drivers side filter which is located in the area where the hydraulic jack reservoir is and had no problems.

When I attempted to change the filter above the starter in the passenger side I found the exact same filter as the one I just changed. A FS 1022 but the book says it should be a FS 1242 which is what I purchased.

In looking at the new filter (1242) there seems to be something that screws onto the bottom of the filter but that piece is missing. I'm thinking that perhaps the original owner lost it and just replaced the filter with a FS 1022.

Can someone tell me what screws on the bottom of the 1242 as I would like to bring it back to the way it was originally. Whatever it is it would have to have the plug-in for the water in fuel sensor. I have the wire and plug which was hooked up to the 1022 filter.

Thanks, Mike
  • The FS1242 is a 10 micron PRIMARY FILTER element that takes a clear plastic bowl. Primary is the first one the fuel get to from the tank.

The FS1022 is a 2 micron SECONDARY FILTER.

Sounds like you had a 2 micron filter followed by a 2 micron filter!
  • Thanks guys. I found the part #3831871S and will order the filter and the bowl.

    Thanks again, Mike

On the right track. On my similar coach, it is the FS1022 that is mounted back on the engine and does indeed have a sensor the wires plug into. The FS1242 with the plastic bowl mounts in the easily accessible side panel so that you can check the bowl for water and drain it out as needed.

Sounds like someone on the OP rig did not have the 1242, so installed the 1022 instead. If that is the case, I suggest the OP order the FS1242B which includes the bowl and install that in the side compartment as the manufacturer intended.
  • My 08 HR, purchased new, with a 6.7 ISB used the same filter on the engine as it did in the side bay. I think the days of a water separator are just about gone.

  • I have an '04 Diplomat with the 330 and the setup is likely the same. For me, on the engine is the FS1022. In the driver side compartment, it should be the FS1242, and yes it has a clear plastic bowl that screws on the bottom to let you check for (and drain) water in the fuel before each trip. You can buy the filter and bowl together, then after that just buy the filter...

The prior owner of my rig had put a non-Fleetguard filter in the driver side compartment and I bought the filter/bowl combo online, but having a heck of a time finding it now. I will keep looking...

    UPDATE

OK, I found it. I typically buy my filters from the Ryder Fleet website because I can seldom find the 3 filters I need on any other single website. So the part number for the filter/separator that includes the bowl is FS1242B. After you buy that once, you can then just buy the FS1242.

  • I would go to the Fleetguard site and see what it looks like?? Then ask them.. Mike Mathews..
