- tinkererExplorerIt sounds like this post has taken the turn to the diesel vs gas debate. The people that don't own a diesel know more about them than the owners, and it's the other way around coming from diesel owners. Couldn't resist this one!

After seeing what you have, the Discovery is moving down IMHO. Why not just keep what you have? Or get something more equivalent?
As I have said before, We are not moving out of the Newmar.

I'm not really understanding your post. One, there's nothing in this thread you started explaining its not for you but a friend. Two, your responses don't reflect someone actually interested in people's responses other than to respond snarky. Three not everyone follows every post you make.
Good luck. Let your friend do the research if they wish for good answers. And yes that's being snarky. - Mile_HighExplorer

You seem pretty argumentative to anything offered, so figure it out yourself. Fleetwood has gone through several reorganizations, downsizing, and consolidations of the fleet.Mile High wrote:

what year are you looking at?
Why would it matter ?
Does the build quality vary from year to year?
Then tell me when and how the Fleetwood made the change in build quality? - Tom_BarbExplorer

To the extent that a trusted manufacturer is taken over by a bean-counting conglomerate, yes it does. Safari quality certainly suffered under Monaco, IMHO.
With diesels, you have the whole pre-DEF, post-DEF and DPF eras.
I recognize your point about pre DEF and the post error, but Fleetwood hasn't been taken over by a bankrupt company and ended production. (or has it? ) - et2ExplorerAfter seeing what you have, the Discovery is moving down IMHO. Why not just keep what you have? Or get something more equivalent?
- et2ExplorerWell, since your asking for info without helping those who "might help" with specific year and model, your going to get the answers you've recieved. Things do change from year to year.
The excursion is not a model above the Discovery. It's a base model. Depending on the year, there was a Expedition model between the two.
But what I can tell you about the Discovery ( depending on year) it's a better more powerful engine based on the Cummis ISC class. The lower models have the ISB, less horsepower and torque.
Most share the same Freightliner chassis as the other lower models. Our Expedition has been pretty good. There was a main seal on the engine that was repaired after the first year under warranty ( 4 years ago). An idler pulley replaced. Other than that it's been fine in regards to the chassis and engine. Just do the required maintenance and all shoul be fairly smooth. If your buying, ask to see the maintenance records.
Fleetwood wise we've have issues with the hot water mixing valve going bad every two years. Some paint cracks that fleetwood repaired. Steps went bad, replaced motor. So only one of those (paint) was directly related to Fleetwood.
All said I believe we've had a decent record and less issue that some. But ... It's as good as anyone else's. More flashy stuff, the more can go wrong.
The discovery is a decent entry into the DP MH market.
Another reason for the age request is there's many things need to be considered. Tires, batteries, generator maintenance, engine maintenance as well as many other things. So yes, it matters. - jplante4Explorer II
