Flexsteel and Newmar

My "ultraleather" Flexsteel seats flaking and chipping worsening each year in my 2010 Newmar Bay Star. Flexsteel says Newmar purchased a lesser quality material and have received many complaints. This particular material has been discontinued according to Flexsteel and Newmar. Newmar refuses to do anything because warranty expired) I call it deceit. Anyone else have this problem?

    1. What do you expect Flexsteel to tell you? YES, we built cheap coverings? Of course they will blame Newmar, because that gets THEM off the hook.
    2. Flexsteel or Villa(2 main suppliers) both have issues with certain fabrics and leather.
    3. IF you have an issue, talk to them and see if they will supply the Material and you will have to pay the labor.
    4. Your RV is 8 years old, that means the fabric has lasted its normal length. My old Lexus RX 300, had the drivers seat leather wear out after 8 years. JUST the drivers seat which took daily wear. The other seats held up just fine.
    5. Deceit is a strong word for something that wears out after 8 years. Unless they stated that their furniture would last forever, there is NO deceit involved. Doug
  • I have 3 Flexsteel swivel seats in my 94 Bounder and they are still in good shape and move in all directions without problems. Not sure if my couch is made by them but also looks great still. Maybe like some things, older stuff was better quality.

I also have 2 Flexsteel leather swivel/rocker/recliners in my home that I love.

  • I also had a 2010 Newmar Baystar that I purchased new in early 2009. It had opposing "sofas" up front made by Flexsteel. These were cloth covered, not leather. Within a few months the foam had lost all support and the seat underside material was ripping through the springs. Newmar was zero help, but I called Flexsteel directly and I heard the same story...Newmar was ordering low quality foam, etc. But, they said I could bring the coach in and they would replace the foam with their high-quality foam and completely recover them no charge. I only live about 3 hours from their facility in Dubuque, IA, so I stayed in their parking lot overnight (don't recommend it...not a good part of town and I was woken in the middle of the night for a police bust with flashing lights at the other end of the parking lot). Next day they tore out and repaired both sofas and reinstalled and none of those issues ever appeared again in the 8 years I owned the coach.

As a side note, those sofas never were very comfortable...not deep enough. We eventually tore one of them out and replaced it with something nicer. When I traded the unit recently, I simply reinstalled the original and took the nice one out for home use in the den.
  • We have Flexsteel in our 2016 BS Sport. Have had issues with the captains chairs with steel rods coming out the sides, and the sofa is not very comfortable at all. Materials seem fine. Will most likely replace the sofa by years end. Just don’t know with what.
  • Flex steel is blowing smoke. They are NOT a high quality line of furniture, Whether in a RV or a home. Toss 'em out and buy some good stuff.
  • Wow. We had a 2008 Komfort TT and it came with two beautiful cream colored ultra leather recliners. Loved them! Now keeping them clean was another thing! We traded for a FW so couldn't tell you the quality over time. We have Flexsteel in our house and it's the best we've had in furniture!
  • I yanked out every bit of Flexsteel furniture, including the captains chairs, out of my Monaco coach. I though they were all poor quality and I gave them away for free.
