Been with State Farm for 30 years. No major increases.

State Farm doesn't sell Full Time insurance.

READ, read, read before changing insurance companies.

Almost all the advertised adnauseum Insurance companies either on TV or online, advertise one rate and either under that in small print or buried in your policy (which you get after you pay for it, unless you demand to read it first), (which if you do it on line no one ever does)...will be the disclaimer right in the policy that the rate is for ONE year.

With that they need no reason to raise your rate. Then try and go back to your original insurance company and see what happens. :(

Yet all my friends that jump ship for these TV ads and E insurance are bouncing all over because of increases.

I have National General sold by Good Sam.
I just checked my renewal due on April 4th. It is the same amount as last one in Oct. And same as paid April 2015. No more and No less.

There are many reasons companies will raise the rates. progressive is not often teh lowest price, in fact in my life not EVER the lowest price.

When Progressive raised ours last year we shopped and went with AARP The Hartford.

Progressive also raised my rate based on my credit score of 832 out of ( I think) 850 which is exceptional. When I talked to progressive they said the underwriters established the rate based on my credit score and other 'factors'. What other factors I asked but they did not know. Or the 'agent' on the phone did not know. I tried to contact the underwriter but with no success due to no accurate phone number or the robot answering machine. Lets see 1. No claims ever, 2. no tickets, etc in over 30 years, 3. no history of any abuse, 4. Have my jeep policy with them, 5. No late payment (automatic withdrawals}. 6.It's time to shop around. I'm sure "Flo" (Stephanie Courtney), sleeps quite well on what she's paid. ;)

We switched to Geico when Allstate raised our rates more than we felt justified. We switched to Progressive when Geico raised our rates more than we felt reasonable. So far our Progressive rate increases have been quite small, and one year even went down slightly. If/when that changes, we won't hesitate to shop around and change carriers again. It's our money, we decide where to spend it.

Insurance rates are determined by a fairly large set of variables that are weighted differently by the various companies. Most people think their rates are governed by their own claim rate and credit score. While those two are probably weighted highest, there are other factors like driver's ages, crime rates where the vehicle is parked, miles driven, how the vehicle is used, vehicle age, vehicle repair/replacement costs, etc. We live in a connected society and if you live where the neighbors are running meth labs that get raided frequently, or vehicles get stripped and stolen regularly you could very well be looking at higher insurance rates.

I have Progressive and my rates didn't go up when my RV was totaled with only 1700 miles on it, but they did start to go up when the manufacturer of my replacement RV went out of business. With my current RV the manufacturer is still in business and my rates declined significantly. Also, I buy all my insurance thru an independent agent who searches for the best deals every year. Progressive has been best for my RV and motorcycles, but Travelers turned out to be best for my home and car.

This is the correct answer. All insurance companies "buy" business to gain market share initially. Eventually it catches up with them and rates go up. Buying insurance because a friend or relative sells it to you or you think being loyal to a company is the best approach are spending money you do not have to spend.

BTW, I was an insurance broker for 15 years.
