- MittseeExplorerDid you buy a Ford Edge? We did, 2014, and have a dead battery every day. Followed the manual, talked to two Ford Dealers and now have a case number with Ford waiting for someone to tell us what is wrong. Love the car BUT this is not working for us. Read forums and others have added a Toad Charger, still waiting for some confirmation. Others say there is a second ACC position. What did you do if you bought this car..we have owned 2 jeeps and miss their convenience.

Anyone towing a 2014 or 2015 Ford Edge? Any comments pros or cons?
Thanks

We're looking to buy a new toad within the next few weeks, and the two remaining candidates are the Jeep Cherokee Limited (4WD with 2-speed TC) and the Ford Edge. The Edge looks very nice, and has the added bonus (in my mind) of coming from a company that didn't have to suck money out of taxpayers in order to stay in business.
As noted above, only certain engine/tranny combinations for the Edge are towable four-wheels down, but for those combinations the owner's manual approves such towing: "Follow these guidelines if you have a need for recreational (RV) towing. An example of recreational towing would be towing your vehicle behind a motorhome. ..."
We spoke to a couple in an adjacent campsite recently who had an Edge and loved it. The selling point for them was that the toad was also the wife's general purpose car (as it will be for us), and it met that purpose well. Theirs was an older model (I forget what year, but maybe 4 or 5 years old) and they had zero problems, with no expenses except for ordinary maintenance. Reliability is important for us. So, it's coming down to comfort, features, and the ultimate reality, price. So far, the Edge looks good on all counts.*

* Actually, there's one other factor. My wonderful, intelligent, beautiful wife (in case she's reading this) also wants the toad's color to be coordinated with the color scheme on the motorhome. Really. - jerseyjimExplorerI'd be very cautious about what ANY dealer says. The sales staff (my experience) with few exceptions, know NOTHING about ANYTHING except what the new car on the sales floor costs. Get into "towing packages" and such....their eyes cloud over and will tell you what you want to hear...to sell the car.
RESEARCH your Edge. Owners manual should tell you if you can tow 4-down, on a dolly or on a full car trailer. Also, Motorhome Monthly has a list of all towable cars...I think that is on their website. Check it out.
g'luck! - Corkey05ExplorerI seldom start mine because my trips aren't that long on each stretch. But, running the engine is intended to circulate oil in the transmission, not to charge the battery. To save a ton of battery related issues I've always included a "charge line" from the coach to the towd. I've used this method for the last three vehicles I've towed and never have a battery issue.
You love towing the edge ... easy and straight forward. - Two_JayhawksExplorerHello all
We have decided to retire the Saturn and tow my 2014 Edge Limited front drive. I have consulted the dealer AND my own manual and I see no issues. Only thing that almost seems too good to be true is it doesn't require pulling any fuses?
Question to all of you folks that pull a Edge; is simply starting/charging every 6 hours enough to keep battery healthy since key will be in the aux position? Thanks - YC_1NomadWe have a 2012 Edge Limited. Make sure the version you pick is towable. Not all Edge models are. Ours is a front wheel drive with the big engine.
- cvbdslExplorerDon't have a 2014/15, but do have a 2013 Edge AWD that I use as a toad. I put the base plate on myself with my son's help. Fairly easy and took about a day.
Chris - Two_HandsExplorerWe have been very happy with our 2013 Edge as a dingy. We had a 2009 Edge before that as our dingy as well as our only everyday vehicle.
- LamanExplorerI can't comment on the '14 or '15 models but I really like my 2011 Edge SEL as a toad, plan on keeping it a long time.
- jerseyjimExplorerRead your owners' manual. All the info is there. Regardless, you have 3 choices:
1- 4 down
2- dolly
3- full size car trailer.
If you can tow 4-down, then you must find out who makes a baseplate for the car. Then install it...or have it installed. (See BlueOx)
g'luck!
