Can you smell antifreeze anywhere after it is hot?

SAM SPADE: OK...but my personal experience was with a cracked head...and the resulting exhaust STEAM...looked like steam and smelled like steam. And lots of it.That was on a 4 cyl car.

Not always. A fault in the head gasket will sometimes seal itself when expansion occurs with heat.......and open up again when everything cools off.

Get it fixed. If you have white smoke on startup...and just on startup, lasting for just a few minits....nothing to worry about.

Here's a twist on the smell test. I did a cooling system flush and change this weekend, Old and new antifreeze used was Motorcraft Gold. It has no smell. Nothing. Nada. No Kayo Syrup sweetness. Also I only got a few seconds of steam out the exhaust when I started the coach today in 70 degree temps with high humidity.

My coach is on a 2006 F53 chassis with the 3 valve heads engine. Took 3 1/2 gallons to refill the system.

The V-10 expansion tanks is indeed pressurized. The cap is much like a radiator cap and releases pressure when the threshold is reached. The tanks are prone to cracking as is the pressure cap. Your pressure test should have turned up a crack in the tank.... did they check the cap ? When you have a chance, you should replace the spring clamps with worm clamps as the spring clamps can break/loosen up at the most inopportune time.

If there is blow by on this cap you'll notice residue around the cap and on the tank. As the owner of a PSD I always keep an eye on the overflow/expansion bottle for this tell tale sign. The caps are 16psi and can be bought almost anywhere for less than $10. Replace mine very year.

You can't, however, make a flat statement about vapors/smoke at startup because it depends on exactly WHAT it is and how much.

An engine with bad valve guides usually will drain oil down into the cylinders when it's off and puff smoke for a few seconds on startup. Most people can't tell water vapor from smoke just by looking.

What I meant was that all vehicles unpon start up have water/condensation and vapor
second off it a 2015 so I assume its still very low miles


ON RE reading OP notes I read this
The only white smoke occurs on startup until condensation in exhaust clears(couple of minutes).
Now I ask the the OP ? Is he sure it gets real white smoke for 2 minutes? every time? no matter the outside temperature
If so then I concede he may have a internal leak for sure
but as said tail pipe vapor/condensation is normal on all vehicles

Agreed. But, the "sniff test" will sure tell if it is burned oil or coolant.

White smoke on start up.Are you sure that is condensation.There might be antifreeze being drawn into engine on the intake manifold an that would be continous as you drive an i dont think that would cause engine to overheat.Smell should give a indication i would think on start up.
