Forest River Sunseeker 3170DS Options

We are currently looking at a 2014 Forest River Sunseeker 3170DS and have some questions on the options. I'm moving up from a Jayco 21M travel trailer that we had a few fun years with!

What is the fantastic fan?
What is the outside entertainment center vs. the 32" outside TV and DVD player? It looks like some units have both.
Any thoughts on the hydraulic leveling jacks?

Anyone have this layout? Any owners' thoughts would be appreciated as well.

Thanks!!

the entertainment center is a radio cd speakers on outside. that is separate from tv fantastic fan is the Brand name of a ceiling vent fan.get the jacks if possible-leveling can be a pain without them
  • A fantastic fan is a decent vent fan. Quieter and moves a lot more air than the typical 4-5" diameter fan.

No clue on the entertainment center... Some Sunseekers have an inside entertainment center as an option in place of the cabover bed... I prefer the cabover bed because that gives me extra storage.

The hydraulic jacks are a must. Park, mash a button, and your rig is levelled. No worries about blocks, no worries about trying to get within a few degrees of vertical, the only thing to really bother with is tossing jack pads down so the rig doesn't sink in sand or asphalt.

You might check out the Forest River forums -- a lot of good info there as well as here.
  • Get the fan, great deal on a decent high volume fan. There are two outside entertainment centers, one is a basic stereo with CD player, the other has an actual TV center. I'd skip the hydraulic levers - the larger Class C's are already short on cargo capacity - skip the inside entertainment center over the bunk too... It adds lots of weight and deletes a sleeping spot.
  • I like that sofa/bunk in the 3170DS but it sure doesn't look like it has any counter space in kitchen.
I like the 3010DS. It looks like it has counter space. I also love the U shaped dinette.
    the 3010DS
We have the Sunseeker 2450 because it's just the two of us so we don't need anything bigger. It has the U shaped dinette and it makes a very roomy full bed.
Can't help with the outdoor entertainment center but you definitely want the Fantastic Fan and the Auto levelers.
  • If you don't get the hydraulic jacks, how do you level it? Does it have manual jacks that you screw down or basic electric jacks?
  • We have a 2013 and love the layout, especially the bottom bunk that turns into a couch (so does our 100lb dog!) and that the dinette is next to the other couch so we can all sit together and actually be able to talk to each other.
No leveling jacks but that has not been an issue, especially since the C is so easy to drive and move around if we have to.
Kitchen counter space is sufficient when you pull up a folding counter section. We have so. Much storage space that we still have empty bins and drawers!
Ours came with a small folding table that we've never used, but I can see the appeal if it were just two of us.
We also have a Fantastic Fan above the dinette. It sucks hot air out of the unit like what youd'd find in the bathroom, but it's quieter and stronger. Wish we had one in the bedroom, too.
We traded in a very nice TT with a bunkhouse for the Class C and have not regretted it once.
    Happy camping!

no-they can be leveled using hard plastic blocks that various camping places sell. you basically do it manually putting them under the appropriate wheels.

it can be done-it's just a pain. however if you are going to camp grounds that have mostly level sites it probably will rarely be an issue.

Modern absorbtion refrigerators do not have to be quite as level as older models but they still have to be close to level.
  • I hope you have gone to RV Direct for a quote to get the best price and at least to show your local dealer. RV Direct usually is 30%+ below MSRP. RV Direct
  • 2 on the dinette facing forward, 2 on the couch, 2 on the bunk room bottom jackknife sofa and the front two passenger seats which has a passenger airbag shut off key.
