Freightliner diesel pusher differential oil leak?

Freightliner diesel pusher differential oil leak? The tiny drop on ground is very thin like water, almost clear, a little yellow, not oily, not sticky, no smell. It looks like it is coming from top of differential? I thought the differential is never filled to the top? Could it be something else, rain water, water plumbing leak from house plumbing, AC line condensate, what else is up there, what do you think?
  • If the differential is letting out that amount of "liquid", you absolutely need to remove the FILL plug and check the oil.

That is a LOT cheaper than having water in it and having to replace/rebuild the differential.

The vent should only let small amounts of AIR in and out with changes in temperature.
  • Differential may have a vent hole on the top that is letting moisture out.
  • No way is that differential oil. That stuff is THICK and STINKY. You'd definitely tell it was oil. Can you get a hires photo of that area? It's hard to say or guess on the smaller photo.
  • Bottom line-- you need to remove the FILL plug from the rear axle and check for level and more importantly for fluid contamination. It should be the "stinky" gear lube. Clear, slightly yellow-brown, NO WHITE (sign of water intrusion).
  • Do you have any plumbing above the diff? If not look for something that is leaking in front of this and blowing back as you drive.
All of the fluids with your engine have a smell, including antifreeze and brake fluid. Sort of sounds like urine. :B

90 weight gear oil has a very strong odor so it's not from the rear axle. Something is dripping down on the differential and then on the ground.
