Freshwater fill - city water issue?

Doing the pretrip chores for a short trip and have encountered an issue I've never seen. The coach was been winterized with all freshwater drained and the lines blown out {with anti freeze in all of the traps -black and grey tanks}. Added 30 gallons of fresh water to our 40 gallon tank through the fresh water fill on the passenger side of the coach. When finished I noticed a steady drip from the city water fill on the opposite {drivers} side of the coach. :h

No way that I can see to tighten the city water connection. Not sure where and how it connects to the fresh water plumbing. The water pump works fine with all of the faucets and I have hot water as well. Turned off the water pump and hour later the city water is still dripping steadily. Opened a couple of faucets and ran them to take pressure out of the lines and still the city water drip persists.

Most of the time we just run the pump and rarely do we have and or use city water but it is a 10+ year old coach so I guess anything is possible. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I will deal with this in some fashion when we get back as it is only a 2 night local trip... until then guess I'll just let er drip... but I'll put a bucket under the drip and collect that to douse our campfire :B

    There is a spring-loaded check valve in most city water connection. There could be a small piece of debris in it causing it to leak.
    Remove cap from connection point, if there is a screen type washer remove it. You should see a small 1/8 inch or show prong. Gently push it in a couple times. Using a pencil eraser works.
    If this doesn't work connect hose to this connection and try flushing it out.

    There's an RV fitting/plug you can get to blow out your city water fill lines with an air compressor that looks like a tire valve, with a garden hose fitting on the other end. Do you have one of them? You mentioned you "blow out the lines". If so, like enblethen suggested, screw it into the city water fill, and give it a shot of compressed air. If you do use one and it was used to "blow out the lines" you may have introduced a small bit of debris that's holding the spring ball check valve open slightly. Or use a garden hose and give it a push/blast that way.

    I've been through this. First thing is try screwing a garden hose to it and run some water through. I use my garden hose to add the water and the outside shower to let the water out so I didn't add to the tank. Doing this I got an additional year out of the leaky fitting. It would seal for the weekend after a blast of the water hose and then leak a few weeks later when I pulled it out of storage. Eventually the leak became persistent and I had to replace the fitting. I used this one because the housing is metal. Amazon


    If you're going to dry camp you need to stop it from leaking or it will keep running the water pump. For that I used a small hose shutoff end from Home Depot to positively stop the leak. I just left the end in the city water port but turned off while camping. You might even already have one of the shutoffs on your garden hose saving some money. Just screw it in backwards as the valve doesn't care which direction the water is flowing.

    As far as pressing the little plunger in the center of the inlet be careful. Make sure you bleed the pressure out of the system first or it can blow the o-ring right out of the fitting and off into never never land.

    Actually just turning the blow out plug into the City connection should plug the leak. It would on mine, without even screwing the cap on.

    When you remove the screen filter on the city water hookup , make sure you put it back the correct way. The cone should be facing out.


    Keep the filter clean on the water pump.

    Wow, in no time at all a lot of great information and practical ideas. I'll give them a shot tomorrow morning and report back. This Forum is always amazing, thank you one and all.

    If all else fails they are easily replaced I think I paid about $12 for it. After cleaning it several times which worked for awhile I finally had to replace it.

    Fixed it! Thanks again for all of the valuable timely advice. I connected a hose to the city water fill and before turning the hose on opened up the outside shower and turned on the cold. Turned on the hose fairly low and let it run with that water flowing nicely out of the shower head.

    Turned everything off and buttoned up the shower and low and behold no more leak from the city water connection. Must have been some debris inside the connection and the low flow seems to have flushed it out. I do have a brass blowout plug handy if it should start to leak again. Looks like 4 Torx screws will open up the city water feed should I have ny further issues and any replacement parts will arrive in 48 hours from Amazon so methinks all is now good.

    Headed down to the Windy Hill CG at Roosevelt lak e {about 50 miles}, and will spend the next couple of days celebrating my 71st birthday. Will be towing the cargo trailer with my Rzr SXS for some additional fun.
