Gen-Turi Question

For those that have and use the Gen-Turi generator vent tube.....

We have been considering some off-grid camping...concerts, races, etc.....and want to be able to run the generator to use A/C, especially at night. When I run the genset now, the exhaust smell inside when sitting still gets a bit overwhelming. The CO detector has never gone off, and I've used the CO meter from my office to check on the level inside, no reading so far, but I won't go to sleep with the genset running in its present configuration with the exhaust pipe where it is. It is right beside the engine exhaust pipe in front of the rear driver's side tires, and is under and between the kitchen and bedroom windows....basically beneath the bathroom.

So, does the Gen-Turi product really take the fumes and CO away from the RV good enough to feel safe running the genset all night?

  • Works great for me...a lot of people build their own cheaper. I was pressed for time and bought mine. No regrets at all!
  • 10forty2...I have the exact model and color as yours in a 2000 model.

I also use the Genturi overnight on occasion. I have always used a second portable battery powered monitor on the counter top in the bedroom as an extra precaution. Also replaced the hard wired unit last year as well. Never had any issues with all vents and windows closed.

I use a couple of the round suction cups from Harbor Freight to support the Genturi straps. The cups have a handle that pulls good suction. They work best with a few drops of water on the rubber surface as you apply the suction. I didn't want to drill holes in the fiberglass.
  • AWESOME! I guess I'll be adding it to my "go-kit!" Thanks for the replies!!
  • We ran our generator with the Gen-Turi attached non-stop for the better part of a week during a storm related power outage with zero fumes in or around the coach, and even less noise inside and out. We're very pleased with how well the Gen-Turi performs.
  • yes . . . We use ours at the NASCAR races and it's great . . it takes the fumes and vent's them upward to the sky . .

I can sit on the ground at my exhaust and not smell a thing.
  • The Gen-Turi works as advertised. A) Make sure your roof vents are closed. B) make sure if you need it, you get the extension tube. C) make sure that the attachment for the supports is adequate. We use a couple large Glass setting Suction cups. if not that, then install mechanical fasteners to connect the straps to.

I don't run it overnight, but then I've not stayed where the temps at night are so brutal as to need it. Not using the Gen-Turi can be the last mistake you will make. Before we had it were watching TV and running the genset to charge up, everyone started to get a bit drowsy and the alarm went off. we were close to a point by that time that it wouldn't have mattered! The wind had been blowing away from the rig, no problem, but it shifted and started drifting the exhaust underneath. One time was more than enough!!!
  • Yes, the genturi definitely will pull the fumes up and away from the rig. You would want to be careful if you are used to opening your ceiling vents at night. But we use ours when tailgating at ballgames. Generator runs pretty much all weekend in those hot September nights.
