How to remove Captain's Chair pedestal from floor of RV

I need to remove the Computer Desk Captain's Chair pedestal that's bolted to the floor of our 1999 American Eagle.

Getting the chair itself out is no problem. Just 4 small bolts. Done it before.

But I need to get the pedestal out so I can install an orthopedic chair after my recent cervical spine surgery.

So can it just be unbolted from the floor without going underneath the rig which may be difficult/impossible?

That's a rather bold generalization. I have a 40' DP (same chassis as the OP) (with basement) and my chairs are bolted down through the floor where it is exposed to the elements.

Are you saying there is a basement compartment under the chairs in your Pace? Normally, in a Class A, the seats are very close to being right above the front axle.
  • OPs rig in profile has a basement. Bolts or nuts would be in a compartment not through to exposed underneath the rig.
  • my Georgetown had a great deal of under coating on nuts had a hard time getting them cleaned off once done job was ok to remove
  • On my coach the nuts were welded on the underside so everything could be done from the top. Good luck with your recovery. I had L4,L5, S1 fused and the recovery takes a few months. I had replaced my captains chairs before the surgery.
  • My 2000 American Tradition has the chairs bolted to the floor with nuts underneath. I suspect you, or someone else, will have to crawl under the coach. You may want to contact Spartan Chassis and ask someone there what is necessary.

  • When I replaced the pedestal on my past MH, there where four bolts that went through the floor. The bolt end was exposed just behind the front wheel well and then of course the nut part was inside. You should be able to undo the nuts but you will have to make a decision as to what to do with the bolts. Either put a large washer and re nut or get underneath and remove. A third you may be able to just drive the bolts out so they fall on the ground. You will have to look and see where they are in relation to the underside of your coach.

    Good Luck
  • It is most likely bolted through the fllor with washers and nuts. in the compartment under the chair.
